Rikard Berge
Rikard Berge (7 November 1881 – 26 September 1969) was a Norwegian folklorist, museologist biographer and magazine editor. Biography Rikard Gjermundsen Berge was born in Rauland in Vinje, Telemark, Norway. He was the son of Geirmund Hallvordsson (1857–1926) and Sigrid Rikardsdotter Berge (1854–1943). Berge started writing down traditional folklore from the rural districts of Telemark from he was twelve years old. From 1908 he was married to the painter Johanna Bugge (1874–1961), daughter of Sophus Bugge (1833–1907) and Karen Sophie Schreiner (1835–1897). Her father was professor of philology, Indo-European linguistics and Old Norse at Christiania University (now University of Oslo). Berge inherited the collections of folk songs from his father-in-law. In 1907 Berge helped establish the Kviteseid District Museum and in 1909 the Fyresdal Local History Museum. Rauland
Rauland is a former municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1860 until its dissolution in 1964. The area is now part of Vinje Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Raulandsgrend (also known as ''Rauland'') which is where Rauland Church is located. The municipality was a very mountainous, rural area, with about 90% of its area at elevations of above sea level or higher. History In 1860, the northern part of Vinje Municipality (population: 745) was merged with the Øyfjell area in Laardal Municipality (population: 243), together they formed the new municipality of Rauland with a total population of 988. During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee. Håvard Gibøen
Håvard Gibøen (2 March 1809 – 27 July 1873) was a Norwegian fiddler and composer, born on the municipality of Møsstrond, in Telemark. The area is a part of Tinn today. Among his folk tunes are "Haavard Gibøens draum ved Oterholtsbrue" and "Gibøens bruremarsj". These tunes formed the basis for two compositions by Edvard Grieg, included in his opus 72, ''Slåtter''. Life Håvard Gibøen came from a gifted family, and his father, Knut Gibøen, also played the fiddle. His mother, Åsne, was related to the Berge family at Rauland, to whom many other folk musicians were connected. Like his contemporary Myllarguten, he was taught by the known fiddler Knut Lurås from Tinn. Håvard was of small stature, and played in weddings and at feasts from early on. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works. Early life, education and marriage He was born in Larvik as the son of school inspector Hermann Olai Helle (1893–1973) and teacher Berta Marie Malm (1906–1991). He was the older brother of politician Ingvar Lars Helle. The family moved to Hetland when Knut Helle was seventeen years old. He took the examen artium in Stavanger in 1949, and a teacher's education in Kristiansand in 1952. He studied philology in Oslo and Bergen, and graduated with the cand.philol. degree in 1957. His paper ''Omkring Bǫglungasǫgur'', on the Bagler sagas, was printed in 1959. In December 1957 he married Karen Blauuw, who would later become a professor.
