Rijnwoude
Rijnwoude () was a municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covered an area of of which was water. Rijnwoude was formed in 1991 as Rijneveld through the merger of the former municipalities of Benthuizen, Hazerswoude and Koudekerk aan den Rijn. In 1993 the municipality was renamed to Rijnwoude. In 2014 the municipality was dissolved and its land area was amalgamated into Alphen aan den Rijn. Hazerswoude-Rijndijk
Hazerswoude-Rijndijk is a Dutch village located in the province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn, and lies about 5 km west of the village center. Hazerswoude-Rijndijk is a peat Peat (), also known as turf (), is an accumulation of partially decayed vegetation or organic matter. Koudekerk Aan Den Rijn
Koudekerk aan den Rijn (English: ''Cold Church upon Rhine'') is a village located in the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands. It is located about 4 km west of the urban centre, in the province of South Holland. History Koudekerk aan den Rijn is a dike village which developed in the Early Middle Ages along the Luttike Rijn and the Oude Rijn. The Dutch Reformed church is a three aisled basilica-like church. The tower was built around 1400, but probably contains 13th century elements. The 15th century was dedicated to Aleid van Poelgeest who was killed in 1392. The church and tower were extensively restored between 1935 and 1936. Groot-Poelgeest Castle was first mentioned in 1326, but probably dated from around 1250. The castle started to deteriorate after 1705 and it turned into a ruin. The tower, the castle island and a carriage house remain. Hazerswoude-Dorp
Hazerswoude-Dorp is a village in the west of the Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn, South Holland, about 7 km southwest of the town of Alphen aan den Rijn. Hazerswoude-Dorp is a peat excavation settlement which developed in the Middle Ages. It turned into a linear settlement along the dike on the Oude Rijn. A circular canal was dug around the view to prevent a prolapse of the village. The Dutch Reformed church is a single aisled cruciform church. The tower dates from 1646 as a replacement of its medieval predecessor. The church itself was built in 1658. Benthuizen
Benthuizen is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn and lies about 1 km east of Zoetermeer. History Benthuizen was described between 1280 and 1287. Benthuizen developed as a peat excavation settlement in the Late Middle Ages. The Dutch Reformed church is a T-shaped aisleless church which was built between 1796 and 1797. The tower dates from 1672. The church was restored and extended on the north side between 1937 and 1938. Until 1991 Benthuizen was an independent municipality in that year the municipality became part of the larger municipality ''Rijneveld''. In 1993 the name was changed to Rijnwoude, and in 2014 it became part of Alphen aan den Rijn. The HSL-Zuid being constructed passes Benthuizen on the eastern side. Boskoop
Boskoop () is a town in the province of South Holland. It was a separate municipality until it merged into Alphen aan den Rijn in 2014. The town had a population of 15,050 in 2012 and covers an area of of which is water. It's the world's biggest joined floriculture area. Boskoop is famous for its nurseries, particularly woody plant and perennial nurseries, of which some 774 are situated on long stretches of land, divided by narrow canals. Before World War II almost all transport was conducted using narrow boats. A few exceptionally high footbridges crossing some of the broader (main) canals remain from these days. Between the World Wars the transition was made from fruit culture to decorative garden plants and trees. Hogeveen is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located in the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn, about 2 km south of Hazerswoude-Dorp. Benthorn
Benthorn is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located in the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn, about 2 km east of the centre of Benthuizen. Benthorn used to be a ''heerlijkheid'' (manor), owned by the States of Holland and West Friesland. It was sold to Adam Adriaan van der Duyn, lord of 's Gravemoer, in 1724. In 1812, Benthorn became a part of the municipality of Hazerswoude, but on 1 April 1817 it became a separate municipality again. According to the 19th-century historian A.J. van der Aa, in 1840 Benthorn consisted of 0.85 square km and had 10 inhabitants in 2 houses. Because of the small size of the municipality, it was merged into Benthuizen in 1847. Alphen aan den Rijn (; en, "Alphen upon Rhine" or "Alphen on the Rhine") is a city and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. Zoetermeer () is a city in the Western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of of which is water. A small village until the late 1960s, it had 6,392 inhabitants in 1950. Waddinxveen () is a town and municipality along the Gouwe (river), Gouwe river in the western Netherlands in the province of South Holland near Gouda, South Holland, Gouda.
