Riggs Falkiner
Sir Riggs Falkiner, 1st Baronet (c. 1712 – 24 April 1797) was an Irish baronet and politician. He was the oldest son of Caleb Falkiner, a merchant of Cork city, and his wife Ruth Riggs, daughter of Edward Riggs of Riggsdale. He was a cousin of the politician Daniel Falkiner, and on his mother's side of the writer Anna, Lady Miller, née Riggs. He sat in the Irish House of Commons for Clonakilty from 1768 to 1776 and subsequently for Castlemartyr to 1783. On 24 August 1778, he was created a baronet, of Anne Mount, in the County of Cork. On 5 January 1737, Falkiner married firstly Mary Barker. She died in 1762, and Falkiner married secondly Anne Maturin, daughter of Reverend Gabriel James Maturin, in October 1764. He had four daughters and three sons by his first wife, and one daughter Sarah Anne by his second wife. Falkiner died in 1797 and was succeeded in the baronetcy by his only surviving son Samuel. Richard Longfield, 1st Viscount Longueville
Richard Longfield, 1st Viscount Longueville (1734–1811) was an Irish Member of Parliament and later a peer. He was High Sheriff of County Cork in 1758–61. He sat in the Irish House of Commons for Charleville in County Cork (1761–68), and for Cork City (1776–83). In 1783 he was declared not duly elected. He sat for Baltimore, County Cork (1783–1790) before regaining the Cork City seat (1790–96). Longfield was granted two titles in the Peerage of Ireland. On 1 October 1795, was created Baron Longueville, of Longueville in the County of Cork and on 29 December 1800, he was created Viscount Longueville some months after the extinction of that title in the Peerage of England. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. A baronetcy is the only British hereditary honour that is not a peerage, with the exception of the Anglo-Irish Black Knights, White Knights, and Green Knights (of whom only the Green Knights are extant). Falkiner Baronets
There have been two baronetcies created for persons with the surname Falkiner, one in the Baronetage of Ireland and one in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. As of 2014 one creation is believed to be extant. The Falkiner Baronetcy, of Anne Mount, in the County of Cork, was created in the Baronetage of Ireland on 24 August 1778 for Sir Riggs Falkiner, 1st Baronet. He was the great-grandson of Michael Falkiner, originally of Brigart, Leeds, who had settled in Ireland in the 1650s, and represented Clonakilty and Castlemartyr in the Irish House of Commons. The fourth Baronet was a captain in the Royal Navy. The fifth Baronet was a lieutenant-colonel in the British Army and served throughout the Peninsular War. As of 31 December 2013, the present Baronet has not successfully proven his succession to the title, and is therefore not on the Official Roll of the Baronetage, with the baronetcy considered dormant since 1997. Sir Broderick Chinnery, 1st Baronet (13 February 1742 – May 1808) was an Irish politician and baronet. He was the fourth son of Reverend George Chinnery and his wife Eleanor Whitfield, daughter of William Whitfield. Chinnery was barrister and became High Sheriff of County Cork in 1786. John Bennett (c. 1720 – 1792) was an Irish politician, barrister and judge. His granddaughter married the celebrated writer Sheridan le Fanu. Early life He was born in Cork, the son of George Bennett. William Henn of Paradise Hill, County Clare, a future colleague on the Bench, was his cousin.Ball p.175 He was educated at Trinity College Dublin and at the Middle Temple. He was called to the Irish Bar in 1758. He entered politics but was not at first successful in his political career: although he was elected to the Irish House of Commons for Dungarvan in 1776, he was promptly unseated.
