Arvell "Bill" Riggins (February 7, 1900 – March 8, 1943) was an American baseball shortstop in the Negro leagues. He played from 1920 to 1936 with several teams, including the Detroit Stars from 1920 to 1926. Riggins joined the Detroit Stars at the forming of the Negro National League in 1920, and he stayed with the team until 1926. Riggins died aged 43 in New York City. John Riggins
Robert John Riggins (born August 4, 1949), nicknamed "Riggo" and "Diesel", is an American former professional football player who was a fullback in the National Football League (NFL) for the New York Jets and Washington Redskins. He played college football for the Kansas Jayhawks. He was known for his powerful running style and productivity well into the latter years of his career: in 1983 at age 34, he rushed for an NFL single-season record 24 touchdowns and again led the league in rushing touchdowns the following year at age 35. Although he earned only one Pro Bowl appearance in his career, Riggins had his greatest success in the postseason and was named the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XVII where he scored one touchdown and rushed for 166 yards in a 27–17 win for the Washington Redskins over the Miami Dolphins. Karriem Riggins is an American jazz drummer, hip hop producer, DJ and songwriter. Biography Riggins was born in Detroit, Michigan, United States, son of keyboardist Emmanuel Riggins. As a child, he would often watch his father perform with Grant Green, Marcus Belgrave and others. He joined the Kennedy Elementary school band in the sixth grade as a trumpeter, studying with Belgrave, where he played for two years in addition to drums before switching to drums full-time in the eighth grade. Riggins was a DJ, producing hip-hop and performing in three different school bands at Southfield High School before leaving school in the eleventh grade. He joined Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead band soon after at age 17 and moved to New York in 1994, later joining the Mulgrew Miller trio. He also performed in bands with Steven Scott and Benny Green before joining Roy Hargrove's band in the middle of 1995. Mark Alan Riggins (born January 3, 1957 in Loogootee, Indiana) is a former Major League Baseball pitching coach for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB). Playing career Riggins attended Murray State University and played five seasons in the minor leagues, from 1979 to 1983. He debuted with the GCL Cardinals, going 3-1 with a 2.16 ERA in 8 appearances. In 1980, Mark excelled with the St. Petersburg Cardinals. His record was 7-3 with 13 saves and a 1.86 ERA in 57 games. He led the Florida State League in saves and made the league All-Star team. Moving up to the Arkansas Travelers in 1981, Riggins struggled, going 4-6 with one save and a 5.87 ERA. He allowed 109 hits in 89 innings of work. Quentin P. Riggins (born April 14, 1968) is a former American football linebacker who played one season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at Auburn University and attended Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, Alabama. He was also a member of the Raleigh-Durham Skyhawks of the World League of American Football (WLAF). Early years Riggins played high school football for the Robert E. Lee High School Generals. Riggins has competed in Southeastern independent promotions including the United States Wrestling Association (USWA) during the 1990s.
