Production Notes After the film's initial release in April 2009, director Tim Huebschle filmed some more documentary shots during the removal of the Reiterdenkmal in August 2009 which were subsequently edited into the end credits of the film. The screenplay was written in 2008 amidst the political debate of what to do with the controversial German colonial Reiterdenkmal. Tim Huebschle is a Namibian film director and screenwriter. After completing his high school in Windhoek, Tim Huebschle relocated to Cape Town and completed a Bachelor of Arts in English & German Literature at the University of Cape Town. During his studies, he participated in a few film theory seminars and subsequently chose to follow a career in the film industry. He started making independent short films in 2000, after leaving South Africa and moving to Berlin to pursue internships at production companies in the German capital. Reiterdenkmal, Windhoek
The Equestrian Monument, more commonly known under its German original name Reiterdenkmal and the name Südwester Reiter (''Rider of South West''), was a monument in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. It was inaugurated on 27 January 1912, the birthday of German emperor Wilhelm II. The monument honoured the soldiers and civilians that died on the German side of the Herero and Namaqua War of 1904–1907, a situation that caused controversy about its role in a democratic Namibia that has shed its colonial occupation and gained independence. The monument was unmounted in 2009 at its original location opposite the Christuskirche in central Windhoek, and in 2010 re-erected a few metres away in front of the Alte Feste. After public controversy did not cease it was removed altogether in 2013. The bronze statue is currently in storage in the courtyard of the Alte Feste.
