Rick Williams (Georgia Politician)
Ricky Alvin Williams (born September 24, 1952) is an American politician currently serving as a member of the Georgia Senate since 2023. Williams previously served as a Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. Education Williams attended Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service. Career Williams was a former co-owner of a funeral home and cemetery. On November 8, 2016, Williams won an election to become a member of the Georgia House of Representatives for District 145. William defeated St. Sen. Floyd Griffin with 56.57% of the votes. He succeeded Independent Rusty Kidd. Williams took office on January 9, 2017. District 145 covers all of Baldwin County, and a significant portion of Putnam County. On November 6, 2018, as an incumbent, Williams won re-election unopposed and continued serving District 145. William Burton Jones (born April 25, 1979) is an American politician and businessman who is serving as the 13th lieutenant governor of Georgia, since 2023. A member of the Republican Party, he has been a member of the Georgia State Senate, elected from the 25th district, since January 2013 to January 2023. Putnam County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 21,218. The county seat is Eatonton. Since the early 21st century, the county has had a housing boom. It has proximity to Lake Oconee, a recreation site, as well as to major employment centers such as Atlanta, Athens, and Macon. History Putnam County is named in honor of Israel Putnam, a hero of the French and Indian War and a general in the American Revolutionary War. The lieutenant governor of Georgia is a constitutional officer of the State of Georgia, elected to a four-year term by popular vote. Unlike in some other U.S. states, the lieutenant governor is elected on a separate ticket from the Governor of Georgia. Constitutionally, the lieutenant governor's primary job is to serve as President of Georgia's Senate. In the case of incapacity of the governor, the lieutenant governor assumes the powers (but not the title) of the Governor. Baldwin County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 43,799. The county seat is Milledgeville, which was developed along the Oconee River. Baldwin County is part of the Milledgeville, GA Micropolitan Statistical Area. History For centuries the land was occupied by the Creek Nation, and for thousands of years before them, varying cultures of indigenous peoples. Part of the land ceded by the Creek Nation in the Treaty of Fort Wilkinson in 1802 was used to create Baldwin County on May 11, 1803, by the Georgia General Assembly, the state's legislative body.
