Rick Haselton
Rick T. Haselton (born 1953) is a former Judge of the Oregon Court of Appeals. He served from 1994–2015. From 2012–2015, he served as Chief Judge of the Court. Born in Oregon, Haselton received a high school diploma from West Albany High School in 1972 and an A.B. in political science from Stanford University in 1976. While at West Albany and Stanford, he worked as a farmworker, carpenter's helper, and teaching assistant. He received a J.D. in 1979 from Yale Law School, where he was a classmate and friend of future U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. During law school, Haselton clerked for the U.S. Attorney for Oregon Sidney I. Lezak. After leaving law school, he clerked for U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Alfred Goodwin from 1979 to 1980. Oregon Court Of Appeals
The Oregon Court of Appeals is the state intermediate appellate court in the US state of Oregon. Part of the Oregon Judicial Department, it has thirteen judges and is located in Salem. Except for death penalty cases, which are reserved to the Oregon Supreme Court, and tax court cases, it has jurisdiction to hear all civil and criminal appeals from Oregon circuit courts, and to review actions of most state administrative agencies. The 13 judges of the court are chosen by the people in statewide nonpartisan elections to six-year terms, and have as their administrative head a Chief Judge appointed from their number by the Chief Justice of the state Supreme Court. Appeals court decisions are subject to a petition by an aggrieved party for review by the Oregon Supreme Court. Sonia Sotomayor
Sonia Maria Sotomayor (, ; born June 25, 1954) is an American lawyer and jurist who serves as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. She was nominated by President Barack Obama on May 26, 2009, and has served since August 8, 2009. She is the third woman, first woman of color, the first Hispanic, and first Latina to serve on the Supreme Court. Sotomayor was born in The Bronx, New York City, to Puerto Rican-born parents. Her father died when she was nine, and she was subsequently raised by her mother. David V ( ka, დავით V, ''Davit' V''; died 1155), of the Bagrationi Dynasty, was a 7th king of Georgia in 1154 before his death in 1155 He was an elder son of King Demetre I. Fearing that Demetre would make his younger son Giorgi an heir to the throne, David attempted a revolt in 1130. Ultimately, he forced his father to abdicate and David became a king in 1154 or 1155. The Georgian and Armenian chronicles are confused about the length and nature of David V’s reign and disagree over the circumstances of his mysterious death. According to the Armenian chronicler Vardan Areveltsi, he ruled for a month and was murdered by his nobles, Sumbat and Ivane Orbeli, who had made a secret agreement with George, David’s younger brother. Alfred Goodwin
Alfred Theodore Goodwin (June 29, 1923 – December 27, 2022) was an American jurist who was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and also a district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. Goodwin wrote the majority opinion for the Ninth Circuit in the famous pledge of allegiance case that was decided by the United States Supreme Court as '' Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow''. Goodwin found that the recitation of the Pledge with the words "under God" violated the Establishment Clause, but the Supreme Court reversed his ruling.
