Rick Hansen Secondary School (Abbotsford)
Rick Hansen Secondary is a public high school in the neighborhood of Townline Hill, located in the west part of Abbotsford, British Columbia. It is part of School District 34 Abbotsford. Rick Hansen Secondary School (RHSS) is named after Rick Hansen, an athlete who won all-star awards in five sports when he was paralyzed at the age of 15 after being thrown from the back of a truck. He subsequently became a paraplegic athlete and activist for people with spinal cord injuries. The school usually takes in graduates from the nearby Eugene Reimer Middle School, and serves a predominantly Desi & South East Asian community. In 2015–2016, the school suspended many of its programs such as various clubs, sports teams, concert band and its cafeteria due to the low number of students. Rick Hansen Secondary School (RHSS) is a public high school located in the southeast corner of Streetsville, a community in Mississauga, Ontario. Rick Hansen is home to graduates from Fallingbrook Middle School, Fairwind Senior Public School, and Hazel McCallion Senior Public School. The school opened in 1999, and in 2002, the school expanded with a new wing on the west side of the school, which added 14 classrooms, 2 dance studios, and 2 art rooms. Nearly 2,000 students attend this school. Jacob Doerksen
Jacob Luke Doerksen (born October 16, 1987) is a Canadian former professional basketball player. Career A native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Doerksen played basketball and football at Rick Hansen Secondary School, he was named the British Columbia High School Male Athlete of the Year in 2005. In 2005, the forward enrolled at University of Victoria and won the Dr. Peter Mullins Trophy as CIS Rookie of the Year in the 2005–06 season after helping the Vikes claim a CIS National Championship silver medal. In his second year at Victoria, Doerksen averaged a team-high 14 points a game, while grabbing just under five rebounds per contest. After sitting out the 2007–08 season, Doerksen transferred to Trinity Western University in 2008. He would later be named "arguably the greatest basketball player to ever don a Spartans uniform". Ultimate Frisbee
Ultimate, originally known as ultimate Frisbee, is a non-contact team sport played with a frisbee flung by hand. Ultimate was developed in 1968 by AJ Gator in Maplewood, New Jersey. Although ultimate resembles many traditional sports in its athletic requirements, it is unlike most sports due to its focus on self-officiating, even at the highest levels of competition.
