Richti Wallisellen
Richti Wallisellen is a mixed-use development (residential, commercial, offices) on former industrial land situated between Wallisellen railway station and the 1970s-era Glattzentrum indoor shopping mall. The master plan of the new complex was designed by architect Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani on a model of an Italian city center. Richti Wallisellen is made of six five-storey high buildings and one 72-meter-high glass high-rise. Four buildings are for residential purpose. The first two, already inhabited, host private apartments and are respectively designed by Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani (Konradhof) and SAM Architekten (Escherhof). The second two host apartments for rent, and are both designed by Diener & Diener. The remaining two buildings are for offices. The first office building hosts the new headquarter of Allianz Suisse from end 2013, and is designed by Wiel Arets Architects. Wallisellen is a municipality in the district of Bülach in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland, and belongs to the Glatt Valley (German: ''Glattal''). History The first settlement at Wallisellen dates from 58 BC. The municipality Wallisellen has its origin between 400 and 700 BC, after the Germanic migration of the peoples. Wallisellen is named according to both parts "Walchen" and "Seller". The Germanic peoples described as "Walchen" its Celtic and Romanic neighbours (see Walensee, lake of the Walchen). The word "Seller" stands for immigrated farmers, in contrast to long-established farmers, who cultivated small and modest farms. Linguists think that the name originated because Franks or Alemanni gave the name "Wallisellen" to a small farmer settlement, which was inhabited or founded by Celts or Romans. Wallisellen Railway Station
Wallisellen is a railway station in Switzerland, in the municipality of Wallisellen. It is located on the Zurich to Winterthur railway line, and is to the Zurich side of the junction with the Wallisellen to Rapperswil via Uster line. The railway station is adjacent to the newly built Richti Shopping development. Service The station is an interchange point between the Zurich S-Bahn and the Stadtbahn Glattal light rail system. It is served by Zürich tram route 12, operating on behalf of the Stadtbahn Glattal, and by S-Bahn lines S8, S14 and S19. On weekends, there is also a nighttime S-Bahn services (SN8) offered by ZVV. Wallisellen is served by four mainline tracks, numbered 3 through 6 (1 and 2 correspond to the Stadtbahn Glattal), accessed by two island platforms. Glattzentrum
The Glattzentrum, more formally known as the Einkaufszentrum Glatt or Glatt shopping centre, is a shopping mall located in the Glatt Valley close to the Switzerland, Swiss Zurich, city of Zurich. Politically, the mall is situated in the Wallisellen, municipality of Wallisellen. The mall was opened in 1975, being modeled on similar malls in the United States. Like its US progenitors, the mall was intended to be accessed by car, and it is located close to the A1 motorway (Switzerland), A1 motorway and provides spacious car parking. In 2010, phase 2 of the Stadtbahn Glattal opened, including an elevated tram stop linked to the mall by a footbridge. Wiel Arets (, born ) is a Dutch architect, architectural theorist, urbanist, industrial designer and the former Dean of the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, in the United States of America. Arets was previously the 'Professor of Building Planning and Design' at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), Germany, and studied at the Technical University of Eindhoven, graduating in 1983. UPC was the largest cable operator in Switzerland with around 1.1 million residential and business customers and was formed in 1994 through the merger of several cable operators. UPC has been a subsidiary of Liberty Global since 2005.
