Richmond West (originally Fort Richmond West) is a suburb in the Waverley West area of southwest Winnipeg, Manitoba. The area was originally part of the Rural Municipality of Fort Garry, which was incorporated in 1912. Richmond West is located north of the Perimeter Highway, east of Waverley Street, west of Pembina Highway, and south of Bison Drive. Further, the CN Letellier line goes from north to south along the east side of its boundary and to Letellier, Manitoba. History The Richmond West neighbourhood began development in 1978. Initially developed by Ladco Homes, Richmond West expanded from the south starting in the early 1980s and 1990s. expanding north during the late 1990s and 2000s. Area codes 204, 431, and 584 are telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the entire Canadian province of Manitoba. Area code 204 is one of the original North American area codes assigned in 1947, and 431 and 584 are area codes that overlay the entire numbering plan area (NPA). The incumbent local exchange carrier for the area codes is Bell MTS. In 2009, the Canadian Numbering Administrator forecast that area code 204 would be exhausted within a few years even though there are only 1.2 million people in the entire province. Waverley West is a city ward and suburb in southwest Winnipeg, Manitoba. The area was approved by the Government of Manitoba in 2005, and is scheduled to be constructed over a 20-year period. With a projected population of 40 000 in 2009, the suburb, were it to be a separate city, would be the third-largest city in the province. The ward falls into the broader Fort Garry area of Winnipeg. Rural Municipality Of Fort Garry
Fort Garry, also known as Upper Fort Garry, was a Hudson's Bay Company trading post at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers in what is now downtown Winnipeg. It was established in 1822 on or near the site of the North West Company's Fort Gibraltar established by John Wills in 1810 and destroyed by Governor Semple's men in 1816 during the Pemmican War. Fort Garry was named after Nicholas Garry, deputy governor of the Hudson's Bay Company. It served as the centre of fur trade within the Red River Colony. In 1826, a severe flood destroyed the fort. It was rebuilt in 1835 by the HBC and named Upper Fort Garry to differentiate it from "the Lower Fort," or Lower Fort Garry, 32 km downriver, which was established in 1831. Route 80, locally known as Waverley Street, is a major arterial road in the southwest portion of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It runs from Kenaston Boulevard (Route 90) to Grant Avenue (Route 105). Waverley Street serves as a major route to get to and from the industrial and commercial areas between McGillivray and Bishop Grandin Boulevards. The speed limit along the route south of Wilkes Avenue is 80 km/h (50 mph). Route 42 is a major arterial road located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It connects the suburbs of North Kildonan, East Kildonan, Fort Rouge, Fort Garry, and St. Norbert with the city's downtown core. In the north, it is a continuation of Manitoba Provincial Road 204 (PR 204); in the south, it is a continuation of PTH 75 (or Lord Selkirk Highway).
