Richmond Rifles
The Richmond Rifles were a professional ice hockey team of the Eastern Hockey League from 1979–1981, playing in Richmond, Virginia at the Richmond Coliseum. They played the final two seasons of the EHL. They were the affiliates of the New York Rangers for both seasons and the Winnipeg Jets for 1980-81. Richmond RiverDogs
The Richmond RiverDogs were a minor professional ice hockey team based in Richmond, Virginia, that played at the Richmond Coliseum from 2003 to 2006. The RiverDogs were formed during an expansion of the United Hockey League (UHL) in the fall of 2003, replacing the ECHL's Richmond Renegades, which folded in April 2003. It was originally owned by Dr. Eric Margenau, a New York-based psychologist who also owned several other minor league teams. In their first year of play in the UHL, the RiverDogs were coached by Rod Langway and won the Eastern Division in the regular season and made the playoffs, but lost in the first round to the Elmira Jackals. General manager Jeff Croop then fired Langway and replaced him with Don Martin. The following offseason, Dr. Margenau sold the team to Glenn Morelli and the team failed to qualify for the playoffs while also reportedly bouncing checks. Richmond Renegades
The Richmond Renegades were an ECHL ice hockey team in Richmond, Virginia that played in the East Coast Hockey League from 1990 until 2003. The Renegades played at the Richmond Coliseum, which they marketed in later years as ''the Freezer''. The Renegades folded in 2003, but were succeeded by the Richmond RiverDogs of the United Hockey League. History In their 13 seasons, the Renegades won the Riley Cup as league champion in the 1994–95 season, the Brabham Cup in 1995–96 as regular season champion, and the Northern Conference championship in 1998–99. In the 1999 Kelly Cup Finals they blew a 3–1 series lead to the Mississippi Sea Wolves. The Renegades' rivals for most of their existence were the Hampton Roads Admirals, based in Norfolk, Virginia. Richmond Wildcats
The Richmond Wildcats were a minor league professional ice hockey team based in Richmond, Virginia. Richmond joined the Southern Hockey League as an expansion team in 1976, and replaced the void at the Richmond Coliseum, when the Richmond Robins ceased operations. The Wildcats were affiliated with the New York Rangers, and the St. Louis Blues, for the 1976–77 Southern Hockey League season. Forbes Kennedy was named the team's coach. The offence was led by Barry Scully with 44 points, Claude Periard with 30 goals, and Lorne Rombough with 28 goals. The Wildcats played 38 games before the team folded on January 3, 1977 due to financial problems.
