Richards Miller
Richards Marion "Doc" Miller is a dentist and one of the founders of the Venturing program of the Boy Scouts of America. Miller is the recipient of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award and Silver Buffalo Award Early life Miller attended Brigham Young University. While there, he was a cheerleader from 1967 to 1969; becoming the head cheerleader in 1969. Career Miller founded a dental practice in Waynesboro, Virginia in 1974. From 1986–1997, Miller was the junior varsity volleyball coach at Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville, Virginia. Scouting Miller joined the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) when he was fourteen years old and became an Eagle Scout with two Eagle Palms in 1959. Brigham Young University
Brigham Young University (BYU, sometimes referred to colloquially as The Y) is a private research university in Provo, Utah. It was founded in 1875 by religious leader Brigham Young and is sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Wood Badge (Boy Scouts Of America)
Wood Badge in the United States is the highest level of adult Scout leader training available. The first Wood Badge course was presented in England by the founder of Scouting, Baden-Powell, and he introduced the program into the United States during a visit in 1936. The first course was held at the Mortimer L. Schiff Scout Reservation, but Americans did not fully adopt Wood Badge until 1948. The National BSA Council staff provided direct leadership to the program through 1958, when the increased demand encouraged them to permit local councils to deliver the training. The program originally focused almost exclusively on Scoutcraft skills, some elements of the Patrol Method, and First Class Boy Scout requirements. The Silver Antelope Award is used to recognize registered adult Scouters of exceptional character who have provided distinguished service within one of the geographical regions of the Boy Scouts of America. The recognition was presented by the National Court of Honor on behalf of the four regions of the Boy Scouts of America – Central, Western, Southern, and Northeast until 2021.
