Richard Winwood (MP)
Richard Winwood (15 April 1609 – 28 June 1688) of Quainton, Buckinghamshire was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons of England, House of Commons at various times between 1641 and 1685. Biography Winwood was the eldest surviving son of Sir Ralph Winwood and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Nicholas Ball of Totnes, and stepdaughter of Sir Thomas Bodley. His father was Secretary of State (England), Secretary of State in the time of King James I and was granted Ditton Park in Buckinghamshire. He was educated at Eton College from 1616 to 1626. His father died in 1617 and left the estates to his mother for his lifetime. However, in around 1640 he acquired the manor of Wexham. In 1641, Winwood was elected member of parliament for Windsor (UK Parliament constituency), Windsor in the Long Parliament. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 United Kingdom census, 2011 Census was 1,295. The village has two churches (Anglican and Baptist), a school and one public house. The location means that while many commute to London, others are employed in neighbouring towns and villages. New River Company
The New River Company, formally The Governor and Company of the New River brought from Chadwell and Amwell to London, was a privately-owned water supply company in London, England, originally formed around 1609 and incorporated in 1619 by royal charter. Founded by Hugh Myddelton with the involvement of King James I, it was one of the first joint-stock utility companies, and paved the way for large-scale private investment in London's water infrastructure in the centuries which followed. The New River Company was formed to manage the New River, a artificial aqueduct which had been completed a few years earlier by Myddelton, with the backing of the King and the City, to supply fresh water to London. During its history, the company maintained a large network of pipes to distribute water around much of North London, collecting rates from water users. Cornelius Holland (regicide)
Cornelius Holland (1599 – 1671) Born London, England; died possibly at Lausanne, Switzerland about 1671, after he was wanted for his part in the regicide of Charles I of England. Holland is alleged to have been the chief hand in drawing up the charges against King Charles I, although he was not present when the sentence of death was pronounced, nor does his name appear on the warrant of execution. In February 1649, he was appointed to Council of State and was reappointed the next years. Holland lived for a time at Creslow Manor House which he remodelled ca. 1646.
