Richard Waring (writer)
Richard Waring (born Brian Barton-Chapple, 26 June 1925 – 5 December 1994) was a British television scriptwriter. Waring was the author of numerous domestic sitcoms from the early 1960s, he worked for both the BBC and ITV. His first success was ''Marriage Lines'' (1961–66) with Richard Briers and Prunella Scales. In '' Not in Front of the Children'' (1967–70), Wendy Craig's dizzy housewife made her first appearance. Waring created '' ...And Mother Makes Three'' (1971–73), and its sequel '' ...And Mother Makes Five'' (1974–76), also featuring Craig in a similar role, but he did not write all of the episodes. Other series written by Waring include ''My Wife Next Door'' (created by Brian Clemens, 1972), ''Miss Jones and Son'' (1977–78) and ''Rings on Their Fingers'' (1978–80). ''Marriage Lines'' is a British television sitcom first broadcast between 1963 and 1966. The series gave Richard Briers and Prunella Scales, its lead stars, a significant boost in their careers. ''Miss Jones and Son'' is a comedy series first broadcast on ITV (TV network), ITV in 1977. It starred Paula Wilcox, Christopher Beeny, Charlotte Mitchell and Norman Bird. It was written by Richard Waring (writer), Richard Waring and produced and directed by Peter Frazer-Jones. Roger Webb wrote the theme song, "Bright Idea" (from the DeWolfe production music album, ''Awakening'' (DWS/LP 3302). Derek Waring
Derek Waring (born Derek Barton-Chapple; 26 April 1927 – 20 February 2007) was an English actor who is best remembered for playing Detective Inspector Goss in ''Z-Cars'' from 1969 to 1973. He was married to fellow actor, Dame Dorothy Tutin. Early life Waring was born in Mill Hill, London in 1927; his father was the TV pioneer Wing Commander H.J. Barton-Chapple, who had worked with John Logie Baird. Waring's brother Richard was a television comedy scriptwriter. After attending Dulwich College, Waring served with the army in Berlin. He later turned down the offer of a place at St Edmund Hall, Oxford to take up a scholarship with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and then went into rep theatre. Hermione Harvey (born Hermione Helen Mary Hudson; 25 June 1931 - 25 September 2016), was an English actress and dancer. She was known in the 1950s for starring on the West End stage in London. Early life Harvey was born Hermione Helen Mary Hudson to British parents in Mussoorie, India, on 25 June 1931. She was the child of Charles Hudson, a lieutenant colonel of the Black Watch regiment, and his wife, Helen. After her father's death, her mother married Eric Beauchamp Northcliffe Harmsworth. Plot It concerns a young unmarried couple (Sandy Bennett and Oliver Pryde) played by Diane Keen Diane Keen (born 29 July 1946) is an English actress, known for her portrayal of Fliss Hawthorne in the Granada sitcom ''The Cuckoo Waltz'' and Julia Parsons on the BBC soap opera ''Doctors''. She also appeared in Nescafé advertisements from 19 ... and Martin Jarvis. Sandy wishes to marry whereas Oliver is happy to remain unmarried. During the first series they do marry and in the second series they adjust to married life. Brian Horace Clemens (30 July 1931 – 10 January 2015) was an English screenwriter and television producer, possibly best known for his work on '' The Avengers'' and '' The Professionals''. Clemens claimed to be related to Mark Twain (Samuel Langhorne Clemens), a fact reflected in the naming of his two sons, Samuel Joshua Twain Clemens and George Langhorne Clemens. Early life Clemens was born in Croydon, Surrey, to Suzanna (née O'Grady) and Albert, an engineer, who also worked in music halls. He left school aged 14. Following national service in the British Army at Aldershot, where he was a weapons training instructor in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, Clemens wanted to be a journalist but decided he did not have any qualifications. Richard David Briers (14 January 1934 – 17 February 2013) was an English actor whose five-decade career encompassed film, radio, stage and television. Starring Wendy Craig, it is the sequel of '' ...And Mother Makes Three'' and aired for four series. It was written by Richard Waring, Brian Cooke and Johnnie Mortimer. Craig also wrote thirteen of the episodes under the pseudonym Jonathan Marr, including the whole of series two. It was made for the ITV network by Thames Television.
