Richard Strong Cottage
The Richard Strong Cottage is a historic house at 35 Gowing Lane in Dublin, New Hampshire. Probably built about 1767, and reconstructed in 1805, it is a well-preserved example of a vernacular farmstead. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Description and history The Richard Strong Cottage is located on the north side of Gowing Lane, a now dead-end lane that was historically part of the main highway between Dublin and Peterborough (now bypassed by New Hampshire Route 101). It is a modest -story frame structure, with a gabled roof, central chimney, and clapboarded exterior. It has a five-bay front facade, with sash windows arranged symmetrically around the entrance. The entrance is flanked by sidelight windows and topped by a modern Federal style wooden fan. Dublin is a town in Cheshire County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,532 at the 2020 census. It is home to Dublin School and ''Yankee'' magazine. History In 1749, the Masonian proprietors granted the town as "Monadnock No. 3" (or North Monadnock) to Matthew Thornton and 39 others. The 40 grantees came mostly from middle and eastern parts of New Hampshire; none of them became settlers in the township. The deed of grant, which dated November 3, 1749, was given by Col. Joseph Blanchard of Dunstable. The French and Indian War thwarted permanent settlement until the 1760s, when Irishman Henry Strongman moved from Peterborough. Other early settlers arrived from Sherborn, Massachusetts. In 1771, Governor John Wentworth incorporated the town, naming it after Strongman's birthplace: Dublin, Ireland. Peterborough, New Hampshire
Peterborough is a town in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 6,418 at the 2020 census. The main village, with 3,090 people at the 2020 census, is defined as the Peterborough census-designated place (CDP) and is located along the Contoocook River at the junction of U.S. Route 202 and New Hampshire Route 101. New Hampshire Route 101 (NH 101) is a state-maintained highway in southern New Hampshire extending from Keene to Hampton Beach. It is the major east–west highway in the southern portion of the state. The western terminus of NH 101 is in Keene at the junction with New Hampshire Routes 9, 10 and 12. The eastern terminus is in Hampton Beach at the junction with Ocean Boulevard ( NH 1A).
