Richard Stanford (Kent Cricketer)
This is a list of cricketers who played for Kent county cricket teams in first-class cricket matches before the formation of the first Kent County Cricket Club in August 1842. Cricket is generally believed to have originated out of children's bat and ball games in the areas of the Weald and North and South Downs in Kent and Sussex. Richard Stanford (dates of birth and death unknown) was an English cricketer. Stanford's batting style is unknown. He was christened at East Lavant, Sussex on 27 May 1804. Stanford made a single first-class appearance for Sussex in 1832 against an England XI at the Royal New Ground, Brighton. In a match which Sussex won by 5 wickets, Stanford batted once, scoring an unbeaten 5 runs in Sussex's first-innings. Richard Stanford (March 2, 1767 – April 9, 1816) was a Democratic-Republican U.S. Congressman from North Carolina between 1797 and 1816. Biography Born near Vienna, Maryland in 1767, Stanford moved to Hawfields, North Carolina, around 1793 and established an academy. He was elected to Congress as a Democratic-Republican in 1796 and was re-elected nine times before his death in Georgetown in 1816. During the 13th Congress, Stanford chaired the Committee on Revisal and Unfinished Business. He is buried in the Congressional Cemetery.
