Richard Shaw (actor)
Richard Shaw (19 November 1920 – 11 April 2010) was an English actor remembered for appearing in the science fiction franchises ''Quatermass'' and ''Doctor Who'', as well as having a regular role as henchman Ryan in the children's series ''Freewheelers''. Shaw appeared in the 1959 TV serial of '' Quatermass and the Pit'' playing drill operator Sladden. He was asked to reprise the role in the 1967 film adaptation but was unable to do so due to other commitments. Duncan Lamont (from ''The Quatermass Experiment'') was therefore cast instead. Shaw made three appearances in ''Doctor Who'': ''The Space Museum'', ''Frontier in Space'' and ''Underworld''. Outside of work, it seems Richard might have believed in the existence of alien lizards and UFOs. ''Z-Cars'' or ''Z Cars'' (pronounced "zed cars") is a British television police procedural series centred on the work of mobile uniformed police in the fictional town of Newtown, based on Kirkby, near Liverpool. Produced by the BBC, it debuted in January 1962 and ran until September 1978. The series differed sharply from earlier police procedurals. With its less-usual Northern England setting, it injected a new element of harsh realism into the image of the police, which some found unwelcome. ''Pathfinders'' (1972–1973) is an ITV drama set in the Second World War, telling the story of the fictitious Royal Air Force 192 Pathfinder squadron. The Pathfinders were specialised RAF squadrons that marked targets for the RAF's heavy bombers. The series used radio controlled Avro Lancaster models for the flying scenes. The technical adviser for the series was Group Captain Hamish Mahaddie. The music was by Malcolm Lockyer. ''Please Sir!'' is a British television sitcom created by John Esmonde and Bob Larbey and featuring actors John Alderton, Deryck Guyler, Penny Spencer, Joan Sanderson, Noel Howlett, Erik Chitty and Richard Davies. Produced by London Weekend Television for ITV, the series ran for 55 episodes between 1968 and 1972. The theme tune "School's Out" was by Sam Fonteyn. The title derives from the then-standard request phrase used in Britain when they wish to interrupt the teacher with a question.
