Richard Ritchie
Richard Ritchie (born May 2, 1955 in Mineral Wells, Texas) is a former American football quarterback who played college football for Texas A&I from 1973 to 1976. During his career, Ritchie had an undefeated record of 39–0. After winning in his only start during his freshman year of 1973, Texas A&I won three consecutive National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Division I national championships. Between passing and running, he scored 59 touchdowns in his career; he also served as a placekicker for Texas A&I. Following his playing career, Ritchie was an assistant coach from 1977 to 1984 for three teams: Texas, North Texas, and Texas Tech. Mineral Wells, Texas
Mineral Wells is a city in Palo Pinto and Parker Counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 16,788 at the 2010 census (14,644 in Palo Pinto and 2144 in Parker). The city is named for mineral wells in the area, which were highly popular in the early 1900s. History In 1919, Mineral Wells hosted the spring training camp for the Chicago White Sox, the year of the famous "Black Sox" scandal involving "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. Mineral Wells also hosted spring training for the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals in the 1910s and early 1920s. The baseball field was located in the center of town. In 1952, Mineral Wells was the host of the Republican state convention in which delegates divided between presidential candidates Dwight D. Eisenhower and Senator Robert A. Taft. The North Texas Mean Green football program is the intercollegiate team that represents the University of North Texas in the sport of American football. The Mean Green compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the American Athletic Conference.
