Richard Peduzzi
Richard Peduzzi (born 1943 in Argentan, Orne) is a French scenographer. He was the director of the French Academy in Rome from September 2002 to August 2008. Since 1969, he has decorated the sets designed by Patrice Chéreau, and together they have put on several dramatic texts by Bernard-Marie Koltès. In the theatre, they participated in the centennial productions of ''Der Ring des Nibelungen'' at Bayreuth under the direction of Pierre Boulez. For the Opéra National de Paris, they presented Alban Berg's ''Lulu'', and Jacques Offenbach's ''The Tales of Hoffmann'', and for the La Scala, Milan, they collaborated on Wagner's ''Tristan und Isolde'' (2007). Peduzzi also created films with Chéreau, such as '' La Reine Margot'' and '' Ceux qui m'aiment prendront le train''. Argentan
Argentan () is a commune and the seat of two cantons and of an arrondissement in the Orne department in northwestern France. Argentan is located NE of Rennes, ENE of the Mont Saint-Michel, SE of Cherbourg, SSE of Caen, SW of Rouen and N of Le Mans. Argentan station has rail connections to Caen, Le Mans, Paris and Granville. History Argentan is situated near the river Orne. Although the region was heavily populated during the Gallo Roman period the town is not mentioned until 1025–1026. The toponym comes from the Gaulish words ("silver") and ("market"). The town grew in importance during the Middle Ages. Throughout the Middle Ages, Argentan alternated between prosperity and destruction, as English forces occupied the city several times. ''The Tales of Hoffmann'' (French: ) is an by Jacques Offenbach. The French libretto was written by Jules Barbier, based on three short stories by E. T. A. Hoffmann, who is the protagonist of the story. It was Offenbach's final work; he died in October 1880, four months before the premiere. Composition history and sources Offenbach saw a play, , written by Barbier and Michel Carré and produced at the Odéon Theatre in Paris in 1851. After returning from America in 1876, Offenbach learned that Barbier had adapted the play, which had now set to music at the Opéra. Salomon handed the project to Offenbach. Work proceeded slowly, interrupted by the composition of profitable lighter works. Offenbach had a premonition, like Antonia, the heroine of Act 2, that he would die prior to its completion. Jacques Offenbach (, also , , ; 20 June 18195 October 1880) was a German-born French composer, cellist and impresario of the Romantic period.
