Richard Parkinson (agriculturist)
Richard Parkinson (born in Lincolnshire, England, in 1748; died in England, 23 February 1815) was an English agriculturist. Biography He became a farmer, was interested in improved methods, and was encouraged by Sir John Sinclair, president of the Board of Agriculture (1793–1822), Board of Agriculture, who recommended him to George Washington. He left England 3 September 1798, and was for some time in the employ of Washington as an agriculturist at Mount Vernon, and resided at Orange Hill, near Baltimore. On his return to England, Parkinson became steward to Sir Joseph Banks in Lincolnshire. He died at Osgodby, Lincolnshire, Osgodby on 23 February 1815. Richard Parkinson (explorer)
Richard Parkinson full name Richard Heinrich Robert Parkinson (1844, Augustenburg, Alsen Island – 1909) was a Danish explorer and anthropologist. Career In 1875, he became a representative of the Hamburg trading firm J. C Godeffroy & Sohn in Samoa. He was, in part, employed to collect ethnographic material for the Godeffroy Museum. He remained in Samoa until 1882, settling afterwards on the Gazelle Peninsula, New Britain. From there he undertook larger and smaller journeys to the Bismarck Archipelago, then the Solomon Islands and New Guinea. He also collected zoological specimens, especially insects. Thirty Years in the South Seas His masterwork ''Dreißig Jahre in der Südsee'', (''Thirty years in the South Seas''), appeared in several editions first in 1907 and again in 1911. Dr Parkinson is a leading Sydney neurosurgeon who has treated several high-profile sportspeople including NRL players, and champion horserider Darren Beadman. Dr Parkinson has led an Australia study into concussions in the NRL and has completed a two-year research paper finding an increasing trend of concussion in the NRL.
