Richard Charles Arthur Marum McCarthy (born 21 December 1961, in Geelong, Victoria, Australia) is a former Australian cricketer. McCarthy was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm fast-medium. McCarthy made his first-class debut for Victoria against Tasmania in the 1984–85 Sheffield Shield. From the 1984–85 season to the 1989–90 season, he represented Victoria in 11 first-class matches, the last of which came against Western Australia. In his eleven first-class matches, he scored 230 runs at a batting average of 19.16, with a single half century high score of 61. In the field he took five catches. It was for Victoria that McCarthy made his debut in List A cricket against an England XI in 1985. He played one further List A match for the State against Queensland in 1989. Darby McCarthy
Richard Laurence "Darby" McCarthy (1944 – 6 May 2020) was an Australian jockey. Early life McCarthy was born in a sandhills camp at Cunnamulla in Queensland, the son of Albert and Kate, who married at 13. Career He became one of Australia's best jockeys in the 1950s and 60s, and did much to further the Aboriginal cause. Olympian runner Cathy Freeman said of him:Darby influenced me and encouraged me to strive for excellence in all that I do and to persevere against all odds and for this I will forever be thankful... Richard McCarthy is a food systems leader, who devotes most of his energies to the relations between urban and rural communities. He is the co-founder of the Crescent City Farmers Market and its parent organization, Market Umbrella. For eighteen-years, he served as executive director, before taking the helm of Slow Food USA for six-years. There, he brought a sense of playfulness back to the organization with his signature refrain of "joy with justice." He continues to work with Slow Food International and serves on its Board of Directors. A longtime advocate for urban-rural linkages, he co-founded the voice for farmers markets in the USA, the Farmers Market Coalition; and the World Farmers Market Coalition together with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, and notable Italian farmers market network, Campagna Amica. Richie McCarthy
Richard McCarthy (born 11 October 1987) is an Irish hurler who plays for Limerick Senior Championship club Blackrock. He played for the Limerick senior hurling team for 10 years, during which time he usually lined out as a full-back. A defender who was noted for his swashbuckling style, McCarthy was considered a "Limerick hurling fans favourite". McCarthy began his hurling career at club level with Blackrock. After breaking onto the club's top adult team, he enjoyed his greatest success in 2010 when the club won the All-Ireland Junior Club Championship. Almost a decade later, McCarthy enjoyed further success when he won a Premier Intermediate Championship medal and promotion. At inter-county level, McCarthy was part of the Limerick minor team that were All-Ireland Championship runners-up in 2005.
