Richard Matthews (soldier)
General Richard Matthews (d. 1783) was a soldier who fought with the Army of the East India Company. He fought in the Second Anglo-Mysore War (1780-84). Bednore After initial successes in seizing the forts of Rajamundroog and Mirjan (Merjee) before moving on and taking Honnavar (Onore). Matthews was ordered to advance on Bednore. Richard Matthews (microbiologist)
Richard Ellis Ford Matthews (20 November 1921 – 19 February 1995) was a New Zealand plant virologist. Biography Matthews was born in Hamilton in 1921. He grew up in Mount Albert, and was educated at Owairaka School and Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland. He then attended Auckland University College, graduating with a Master of Science degree with second-class honours in 1942. After serving in the 7th Antitank Regiment of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Italy from 1943 to 1945, Matthews undertook PhD studies at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, graduating in 1948. He was appointed senior mycologist at the New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research in 1954 and senior principal research officer in 1956. In 1962, he was appointed professor of microbiology at the University of Auckland, retiring in 1987. Richard Matthews (filmmaker)
Richard Matthews (21 November 1952 – 3 March 2013) was a South African wildlife filmmaker, television producer, television director and cameraman. Matthews spent more than twenty years as a documentary filmmaker for the BBC Natural History Unit. His notable credits included the 2013 BBC television series, ''Africa'', featuring Sir David Attenborough. Matthews won three Emmy Awards and one British Academy of Film and Television Arts ( BAFTA) award for his work on wildlife programming. Matthews lived in Bristol, England, for much of his life, as his former home was located near the BBC Natural History Unit's headquarters on Whiteladies Road. His production company created the "Nighmares of Nature" show for the BBC. He and his family had moved to Cape Town, South Africa in 2004. He specialized in aerial film shots following his return to South Africa. The 2008 congressional elections in Maryland were held on November 4, 2008, to determine who would represent the state of Maryland in the United States House of Representatives, coinciding with the presidential election. Representatives are elected for two-year terms; those elected serve in the 111th Congress from January 3, 2009, until January 3, 2011. Maryland has eight seats in the House, apportioned according to the 2000 United States Census. Its 2007–2008 congressional delegation consisted of six Democrats and two Republicans.
