Richard Martyn (New Hampshire Politician)
Richard Martyn (16301694) was a leading figure in early New Hampshire, in business, church and government. Martyn was a merchant, and in 1671 he was one of the founders of the first church in Portsmouth. He served as selectman, as Commissioner for the Trial of Small Causes, and as Deputy to the General Court of New Hampshire (the legislature of New Hampshire). He was a Representative in 1672 and 1679, and chosen as Speaker of the House in 1692. Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Portsmouth is a city in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. At the 2020 census it had a population of 21,956. A historic seaport and popular summer tourist destination on the Piscataqua River bordering the state of Maine, Portsmouth was formerly the home of the Strategic Air Command's Pease Air Force Base, since converted to Portsmouth International Airport at Pease. The New Hampshire Supreme Court is the supreme court of the U. S. state of New Hampshire and sole appellate court of the state. The Supreme Court is seated in the state capital, Concord. The Court is composed of a Chief Justice and four Associate Justices appointed by the Governor and Executive Council to serve during "good behavior" until retirement or the age of seventy.
