Richard K. Thomas
Richard Kenneth Thomas (aka Zounds, Zounds Productions) is an early practitioner/advocate for theatre sound and composition for live theatre. He began his career at his recording studio, Zounds Productions, which he founded and co-owned with Brad Garton in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Zounds Productions produced among many other bands, legendary punk band Dow Jones and the Industrials. He advocated for sound and composition as full members of the theatre creative team through his long relationship with the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, for which he was made a Fellow and Awarded the Joel E. Rubin Founder's Award in 2008, and awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award for Sound Design. He published many early articles on theatre sound design and composition in the Theatre Design and Technology Journal dating back to 1988. Abe Jacob
Abe John Jacob (born October 7, 1944) is an American sound designer and audio engineer. Called the "Godfather of Sound", Jacob greatly influenced the design of sound reinforcement in modern musical theatre, and was one of the first persons credited in the role of sound designer on Broadway, with a sound designer credit in ''Playbill'' in 1971. Jacob brought many new techniques to musical theatre, including head-worn wireless microphones, powerful concert loudspeakers with dedicated electronic processing, delayed speaker zones, under-balcony speakers, front-fill speakers, mix position in the audience, FFT analysis, scene recall, digital mixing consoles, and delay used to focus audience attention. Jacob sparked the creation of the Meyer Sound Laboratories UPA loudspeaker, which became their flagship product. Battle Of Tippecanoe Outdoor Drama
The ''Battle of Tippecanoe Outdoor Drama'' (''BOTOD'') was an outdoor historical drama held near the site of the Battle of Tippecanoe in Battle Ground, Indiana in the summers of 1989 and 1990. The drama was held at an amphitheater specially constructed for the production and funded by county authorization of an occupancy tax. Unable to attract sufficient audiences, the drama board voted in the spring of 1991 to close the production. The county renamed the facility as the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater. Dow Jones And The Industrials
Dow Jones and the Industrials were a new wave band from West Lafayette, Indiana, from 1979 until 1981. During this time, they released a split LP with the Gizmos, entitled "Hoosier Hysteria", and a self-titled 7-inch EP, both released in the year 1980 alone. A track of theirs, "Ladies With Appliances", was also featured on the "Red Snerts" compilation. Originally, the band consisted of Greg Horn on guitar and vocals, Chris Clark on bass and vocals, Tim North on drums, and Brad Garton (known by his nickname as "Mr. Science") on keyboards. The use of the keyboard, and the band's flirtation with electronic sounds, meant that Dow Jones and the Industrials hinted towards the post-punk sound of bands that would follow them.
