Richard Hills (jockey)
Richard Hills (born 22 January 1963) is a retired flat racing jockey. He is twin brother to Michael Hills (also a jockey) and their father is former racehorse trainer Barry Hills. The twins' older brother John Hills was also a trainer. They also have two younger brothers, Charles Hills (who has succeeded their father Barry as a racehorse trainer) and George Hills who works in the Breeding and Insurance side of the industry in Kentucky, United States. Richard enjoys breeding ducks, Persian Cats and plane spotting. Richard Hills rode his first winner, ''Border Dawn'', at Doncaster Racecourse on 26 October 1979. His first Group 1 winner was ''Ashal'' in the Ascot Gold Cup in 1990. He became the second jockey of Hamdan Al Maktoum in 1995, and was promoted to first jockey in 1997 following the retirement of Willie Carson. He used to fill in for spares rides for Godolphin Racing. Richard Hills (politician)
Richard Brian Hills (born ) is an Auckland Councillor who was elected at the 2016 Auckland elections. He is Auckland's youngest current councillor, the first openly gay Auckland Councillor and one of two Ngāpuhi iwi members. He has been an advocate for more investment in local youth and secured a youth centre in Glenfield. Political career Hills is a member of the New Zealand Labour Party. At the 2011 general election he stood in Hunua and was ranked 50th on the party list. Hills finished second in Hunua, which is regarded as a safe National seat, behind incumbent Paul Hutchison. At the 2013 Auckland elections, Hills was elected to the Kaipatiki Local Board. Hills stood in Northcote at the 2014 general election, finishing second behind incumbent Jonathan Coleman. Richard Edwin Hills (30 September 1945 – 5 June 2022) was a British astronomer who was emeritus professor of Radio Astronomy at the University of Cambridge. Education Born on 30 September 1945 and educated at Bedford School, Hills studied the Natural Science Tripos at Queens' College, Cambridge and then went to the University of California, Berkeley to complete his Doctor of Philosophy degree. Career and research Hills was a research scientist at the Max Planck Institute in Bonn between 1972 and 1974, before he returned to the University of Cambridge and became involved in the development of telescopes and instrumentation for astronomy at wavelengths of around one millimetre—the spectral region that lies between radio waves and infrared—which is relatively unexplored. They both attended Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham Boys Grammar School in south-east London. They were both school captains, Hills in 1943 and Green in 1945. Richard returned to the school as a teacher of English, Latin and French. They co-wrote a number of radio scripts whilst Hills was still employed there, and then became writers for Dave King's radio show and then of Dave King's TV show.
