Richard Herbert Of Coldbrook
Sir Richard Herbert (died 1469) of Coldbrook Park, near Abergavenny, was a 15th-century Welsh knight, and the lineal ancestor of the Herberts of Chirbury. He was the son of William ap Thomas of Raglan Castle and Gwladys ferch Dafydd Gam, and the brother of William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke. He married Margaret, sister of Sir Rhys ap Thomas. They had two sons: Sir William Herbert of Coldbrook, and Sir Richard Herbert of Powys. His great-grandson, Edward Herbert, was raised to the peerage in 1629. Like many members of the Welsh gentry, Herbert was a notable bardic patron. He was the principal patron of Ieuan Deulwyn, and was also a patron of Guto'r Glyn as well as others. Richard Herbert (1557-buried 15 October 1596), Lord of Cherbury (or Chirbury) in Shropshire, and of Montgomery Castle, was an English Justice of the Peace and Parliamentarian. Richard was the eldest son of Edward Herbert (died 1593) through whom he was a member of a collateral branch of the family of the Earls of Pembroke. He was a law student at the Middle Temple in 1576. He married Magdalen, daughter of Sir Richard Newport (died 1570) of High Ercall, Shropshire in 1581. His eldest son, Edward Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Cherbury was born on 3 March 1583 at Eyton on Severn near Wroxeter, Shropshire. Richard Herbert is a Welsh former professional darts player who competed in British Darts Organisation events. Career Herbert played in the 1994 BDO World Darts Championship but lost in the first round to fellow Welshman Martin Phillips. Herbert never returned to Lakeside, but played in the Winmau World Masters three times. His first appearance came in 1997, beating Sweden's Stefan Nagy Stefan Nagy (31 July 1951 – 23 June 2016) was a former Swedish darts player who competed in British Darts Organisation events. Sir Richard Herbert (died 1510) of Ewyas, Herefordshire, was a Welsh knight, gentleman, landowner, and courtier. He was an illegitimate son of William Herbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke (1423–1469), and Maud ap Howell Graunt, a daughter of Adam ap Howell Graunt (Gwynn). Richard had a full brother named George. Richard Herbert of Ewyas should not be confused with his uncle, Sir Richard Herbert of Coldbrook. Richard Herbert (Ludlow MP)
Richard Herbert (1704–1754) was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1727 and 1754. He was badly injured in a duel. Herbert was baptised on 13 December 1704, the second son of Francis Herbert of Oakley Park, Montgomeryshire, and his wife Dorothy Oldbury, daughter of John Oldbury, merchant of London. His elder brother Henry later became 1st Earl of Powis of the second creation. Herbert was returned as Member of Parliament for Ludlow in the interest of his brother Henry at a by-election on 11 February 1727. He voted for the Administration on the civil list in 1729, but his name does not appear on other lists of that and the succeeding Parliament. He was returned unopposed in 1727 and in 1734. He was not put up as a candidate at the 1741 general election, but was returned again at a by-election on 30 December 1743. He voted for the Hanoverian troops in 1744 and 1746. Ludlow is a constituency in Shropshire represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2005 by Philip Dunne, a member of the Conservative Party. History From its 1473 creation until 1885, Ludlow was a parliamentary borough. It was represented by two burgesses until 1868, when it was reduced to one member. The seat saw a big reduction in voters between 1727 when 710 people voted to the next contested election in 1812 when the electorate was below 100. The 1832 Reform Act raised the electorate to 300-400. The parliamentary borough was abolished in 1885, and the name transferred to the new county "division" (with lower electoral candidates' expenses and a different returning officer) whose boundaries were expanded greatly to become similar to (and a replacement to) the Southern division of Shropshire.
