Richard H. Stanley
Richard Henry Stanley (September 10, 1825 – November 5, 1875) was an American lawyer who served as politician and cabinet member of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Life Stanley was born in New York City, September 10, 1825, son of Joseph Currey Stanley and Ellen (Cortelyou) Stanley. He arrived in Hawaii on the ship "Yankee" on 20 April 1858. On February 4, 1861, he became a citizen of the Kingdom of Hawaii. In 1869, he was hired with R. G. Davis by Henry E. Pierce to argue that he was legally the son of American diplomat Henry A. Peirce. He was involved in several land claims, and became commissioner of crown lands in 1874. In the 1874 sessions he was in the legislature of the Hawaiian Kingdom in the House of Nobles. This was a special session to elect a new king after the death of Lunalilo after a reign of only one year. Stanley acted of secretary of this meeting in February 1874. Kingdom Of Hawaii
The Hawaiian Kingdom, or Kingdom of Hawaiʻi ( Hawaiian: ''Ko Hawaiʻi Pae ʻĀina''), was a sovereign state located in the Hawaiian Islands. The country was formed in 1795, when the warrior chief Kamehameha the Great, of the independent island of Hawaiʻi, conquered the independent islands of Oʻahu, Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi and unified them under one government. In 1810, the whole Hawaiian archipelago became unified when Kauaʻi and Niʻihau joined the Hawaiian Kingdom voluntarily. Two major dynastic families ruled the kingdom: the House of Kamehameha and the House of Kalākaua. The kingdom won recognition from the major European powers. The United States became its chief trading partner and watched over it to prevent other powers (such as Britain and Japan) from asserting hegemony. Edward Preston
Edward Preston (17 February 1831 – 17 January 1890) was a lawyer and judge originally from England who served in the Kingdom of Hawaii. Early life Edward Preston was born 17 February 1831 in London, England. In 1852 he sailed to Melbourne, Australia, and then practised law in Christchurch, New Zealand in the firm Wynn Williams & Co. Hawaiian citizenship He married in 1852, and came to the Hawaiian Islands with his wife in 1870. He became a citizen of the Kingdom of Hawaii on 1 April 1871, and was admitted to the bar 5 April 1871. He worked in the offices of Richard H. Stanley in 1875. He was awarded the Royal Order of Kapiolani with rank of grand officer. Political career He was appointed Attorney General on 3 July 1878 by King Kalākaua, and served until 14 August 1880. William Richards Castle
William Richards Castle (March 19, 1849 – June 5, 1935) was a lawyer and politician in the Kingdom of Hawaii and Republic of Hawaii. Family William Richards Castle was born in Honolulu on March 19, 1849. His father was Samuel Northrup Castle (1808–1894), and mother was Mary Tenney Castle (1819–1907). He was a namesake of William Richards (1793–1847) who drafted the first constitution of the kingdom. On October 12, 1875 he married Ida Beatrice Lowrey (1854–1926) on October 12, 1875 and had three children. His brothers George Parmele Castle (1851–1932) and James Bicknell Castle (1855–1918) became executives in the firm Castle & Cooke which was co-founded by his father and Amos Starr Cooke, and developed it into one of the "Big Five" corporations that dominated the Territory of Hawaii economy.
