Richard Grobschmidt
Richard Grobschmidt (May 3, 1948July 23, 2016) was an American educator and former Democratic politician from South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He served five terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly (1985–1995) and parts of three terms in the Wisconsin State Senate (1995–2003), before resigning to take a position with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Background Grobschmidt was born in Milwaukee on May 3, 1948, to Chester W. Grobschmidt and Leone Grobschmidt. His father was mayor of South Milwaukee from 1966 to 1994. Grobschmidt graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1966; earned a B.S. from University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh in 1972, and a M.S. from University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in 1979. He taught political science at South Milwaukee High before being elected to the Wisconsin Legislature. Wisconsin Senate, District 7
The 7th Senate district of Wisconsin is one of 33 districts in the Wisconsin State Senate. Located in southeast Wisconsin, the district comprises eastern and southeastern Milwaukee County, including downtown, south side, and lakeshore areas of the city of Milwaukee, as well as the cities of Cudahy, Oak Creek, South Milwaukee, and St. Francis, and part of the city of Franklin. The district also contains the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee campus, the Milwaukee Art Museum (Quadracci Pavilion), the Port of Milwaukee, Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, and the Henry Maier Festival Park, site of Milwaukee's annual Summerfest. The Wisconsin Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. WUWM (89.7 FM, "Milwaukee's NPR") is the flagship National Public Radio station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is owned and operated by the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and licensed to the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System. A unit of the UW-Milwaukee College of Letters and Science, the station transmits from the WITI TV Tower in Shorewood, and is based on the seventh floor of Chase Tower in downtown Milwaukee, moving there from facilities in the nearby Shops of Grand Avenue in mid-January 2010. Lakeshore State Park
Lakeshore State Park is a Wisconsin state park located on the shores of Lake Michigan in the city of Milwaukee. It is situated adjacent to both Discovery World and Henry Maier Festival Park. It is the only urban state park in Wisconsin and features restored prairie and a pebble beach. In addition to the prairie, portions of the park are planted with Kentucky bluegrass. The park has a paved trail that connects to both the Hank Aaron State Trail and the Oak Leaf Trail. The park features a fishing pier overlooking a basin, on the side opposite Lake Michigan. There are also boat slips at the north end of the park that can be used overnight. The park itself is perched atop an artificial bed of limestone rock material removed from the Deep Tunnel Project in the 1980s. Hank Aaron State Trail
The Hank Aaron State Trail is a rail trail in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. The trail is named after former Milwaukee Braves and Milwaukee Brewers right fielder Hank Aaron and is built on a former roadbed of the Milwaukee Road. , according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, approximately 200,000 people use the trail annually. Elizabeth Burmaster
Elizabeth Burmaster (born July 26, 1954) is an American educator who was the elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction in Wisconsin from 2001–09. After 45 years working in public education, Burmaster retired in July 2021. Life and career Burmaster received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She has honorary doctorates from Beloit College and Edgewood College. Her 45-year career in public education includes teaching positions in the Madison, WI Metropolitan School District at Sennett Middle School, Longfellow Elementary, and Madison East High School. She was the principal of Hawthorne Elementary and Madison West High School. She was elected for two terms as the State Superintendent of Public Instruction in WI, first by 60% and then by 62%.
