Richard Gough (Welsh Footballer)
Richard Thomas Gough (April–June 1859published under Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians. Birthdate based on registration period given as '2Q (ie second quarter) 1859'. – 2 February 1934) was an English Wales international footballer. He was part of the Wales national football team, playing 1 match on 12 March 1883 against Scotland. Football career Tom Gough played for Oswestry Town between 1877–1887. He first played as a half-back before eventually becoming a goalkeeper. He won the Welsh Cup with Oswestry (then named Oswestry White Star) in 1884. After retiring from playing he became a referee, and took charge of two international games. He also became president of the Shropshire FA. In 1911 he became president of the Football Association of Wales. Oswestry ( ; ) is a market town, civil parish and historic railway town in Shropshire, England, close to the Welsh border. It is at the junction of the A5, A483 and A495 roads. The town was the administrative headquarters of the Borough of Oswestry until that was abolished in 2009. Oswestry is the third-largest town in Shropshire, following Telford and Shrewsbury. The British Newspaper Archive web site provides access to searchable digitized archives of British and Irish newspapers. It was launched in November 2011. History The British Library Newspapers section was based in Colindale in north London, until 2013, and is now divided between the St Pancras and Boston Spa sites. The library has an almost complete collection of British and Irish newspapers since 1840. This is partly because of the legal deposit legislation of 1869, which required newspapers to supply a copy of each edition of a newspaper to the library. London editions of national daily and Sunday newspapers are complete back to 1801. The FAW Welsh Cup ( cy, Cwpan Cymdeithas Pêl-droed Cymru), currently known as the JD Welsh Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a knock-out football competition contested annually by teams in the Welsh football league system. Oswestry Cricket Club is an amateur cricket club based in Oswestry, Shropshire. The club was formed in 1855 and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2005 with a fixture against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Oswestry Cricket Club has four teams which represent them on Saturdays during the cricket season, a "friendly" team that plays on Sundays, and the "Aardvarks" team which plays midweek fixtures. Its home venue is Morda Road in Oswestry. The club has a number of junior teams from which the bulk of its players are traditionally drawn.
