Richard Fryer (25 December 1894 – 9 February 1953), born Morris Kolsky, was a British-born Hollywood cinematographer. Background Fryer was born Morris Kolsky in London in 1894, the son of tailor Marks Kolsky and his wife Annie. On 14 May 1911, at the age of 18, he arrived in New York on board the ship "Majestic"; he was already showing his occupation as cinematographer as shown on the ship's manifest. In 1928, when he applied for naturalization he was recorded as a motion picture cameraman living at 6600 Whitley Avenue (Hollywood Heights), Los Angeles.Naturalization Records of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, Central Division (Los Angeles), 1887-1940; National Archives and Records Administration, Washington D.C. It was the twenty-first sound serial released by Universal, of the sixty-nine they released in total (it was the eighty-ninth serial if Universal's silent serials are considered as well, of a total of 137 serials). It was a rare example of the swashbuckling genre in the film serial medium. Ray Taylor directed Richard Talmadge, Lucille Lund and Walter Miller (as the hero, love interest and villain respectively). The serial is especially praised for the stunt work of Talmadge. Plot Aviator Dick Moreland uses his winnings from a recent flight to fund an expedition to recover treasure buried by his pirate ancestor. Plot Stanley Stanfield is the inventor of the Vanishing Ray, a wearable device which, when active, leaves only the user's shadow still visible.
