Richard Freeman (bridge)
Richard A. Freeman (July 21, 1933 – June 29, 2009) was a world champion American bridge player holding the title of World Grand Master, the highest title of the World Bridge Federation. He won the Bermuda Bowl world team championship and won many national championships. Freeman was inducted into the ACBL Hall of Fame in 2001. At the time of his death he held 17,880 masterpoints. Early life He was born in 1933, and was from Atlanta, Georgia. He was a radio Quiz Kid in 1942. In 1952, Freeman became the youngest Life Master in the ACBL ever at that time. In January 1964, he became editor of newly published ''Modern Bridge'' magazine. In 1993 he was a founding member of the Nick Nickell team where he played until his death as Nickell's professional partner. He died in Atlanta. By age 13 Freeman was in his third year at the University of Chicago. He later graduated from the University of Chicago and received a J.D. from George Washington University. Richard Freeman (born 1970) is a cryptozoologist, author, zoological journalist, and WebTV Presenter. He is also the zoological director of the Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ), and co-edits both the journal, ''Animals & Men'' and several editions of the annual CFZ Yearbook. Freeman has written, co-written, or edited a number of books, and has contributed widely to both Fortean and zoological magazines, as well as other newspapers and periodicals, including Fortean Times and Paranormal Magazine. Richard Freeman (1646–1710) was an English-born judge who held the office of Lord Chancellor of Ireland. Family He was born in Gloucestershire, the eldest son of John Freeman and his wife Anne Croft. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford and called to the Bar in 1674. He married firstly in 1693 Elizabeth, one of the many daughters of the leading politician and barrister Sir Anthony Keck, and his wife Mary Thorne. Elizabeth died in childbirth with her only daughter Mary in 1699. He married secondly in 1702 Anne Marshal of Durham, who outlived him by many years. His first marriage was an advantageous one since his father-in-law Sir Anthony Keck was a very rich man. Richard Cameron Freeman (December 14, 1926 – August 22, 1999) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Education and career Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Freeman was a private in the United States Army toward the end of World War II, from 1945 to 1946. He received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from Emory University in 1950 and a Bachelor of Laws from Emory University School of Law in 1952. He was a claims manager for the Life Insurance Company of Georgia in Atlanta from 1951 to 1954, and was in private practice in Atlanta from 1952 to 1971. Richard Knill Freeman (1840, Stepney, London – 24 June 1904) was a British architect who began his career at Derby and moved to Bolton, Lancashire in the late 1860s. His work, in Victorian Gothic style and typically recalling the Decorated Period of later medieval architecture, can be seen in several cities and towns across the north of England. He worked in total on about 140 buildings, of which about half survive in some form. Freeman was a fellow of the Manchester Society of Architects and president of that Society from 1890-91. Career Freeman's work included new churches, restorations, vicarages, schools, homes, museums, municipal buildings and hospitals. He designed additions to Southport Pier and an "Indian Pavilion" for Blackpool's North Pier in 1874. His Derby Museum, Library and Art Gallery, a gift to Derby by Michael Thomas Bass, was completed in 1876. Richard Freeman (born ) is a former sports physician known for his work with British Cycling and Team Sky. In a medical tribunal in Manchester, Freeman was accused of aiding cyclists with doping and related misconduct. He admitted to 18 of 22 charges against him. In March 2021, the tribunal additionally found Freeman guilty of ordering testosterone, a performance-enhancing drug restricted by World Anti-Doping Agency and UK Anti-Doping rules, for a Team Sky cyclist in 2011, "knowing or believing" it was to help dope a cyclist. After the decision, Freeman was permanently struck off the medical register by the General Medical Council. Following a UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) investigation, he was banned from all sport for a period of four years for "possession of a prohibited substance" and "tampering or attempted tampering with any part of doping control".
