Richard Hugh Downend (born 19 January 1945) is a former English cricketer and rugby union player. In cricket, Downend was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace. He was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Cricket Downend made his debut for Staffordshire in the 1964 Minor Counties Championship against Bedfordshire. He played Minor counties cricket for Staffordshire from 1964 to 1977, making 62 Minor Counties Championship appearances. He made his List A debut against Glamorgan in the 1971 Gillette Cup. He made 3 further List A appearances for Staffordshire, the last coming against Glamorgan in the 1975 Gillette Cup. In cricket, a player's batting average is the total number of runs they have scored divided by the number of times they have been out, usually given to two decimal places. Since the number of runs a player scores and how often they get out are primarily measures of their own playing ability, and largely independent of their teammates, batting average is a good metric for an individual player's skill as a batter (although the practice of drawing comparisons between players on this basis is not without criticism). Graeme Watson (cricketer)
Graeme Donald Watson (8 March 1945 – 24 April 2020) was an Australian cricketer who played in five Test matches and two One Day Internationals (ODIs) between 1966 and 1972. Cricket career Watson made his first-class cricket debut for Victoria in 1964–65 before moving to Western Australia from 1971–72 to 1974–75, and then to New South Wales in 1976–77, when he became the first man to play Sheffield Shield cricket for three states. He played minor matches in World Series Cricket in 1977–78 and 1978–79. Watson's highest first-class score came for the Australians against Hampshire County Cricket Club during Australia's tour of England in 1972. John Gleeson (cricketer)
John William Gleeson (14 March 1938 – 7 October 2016) was an Australian cricketer who played in 29 Test matches from 1967 to 1972. He is best known for his unique bowling style, which according to Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland "bamboozled batsmen" and could "regularly dumbfound the best batsmen in any team". Early years Gleeson was born in the northern NSW town of Wiangaree (14 km north of Kyogle) and grew up in the country town of Tamworth. He was the son of a Wiangaree dairy farmer, and attributed the finger strength required to bowl with his two-fingered grip to his childhood, which he spent milking cows. Ashley Alexander Mallett (13 July 1945 – 29 October 2021) was an Australian cricketer who played in 38 Tests and 9 One Day Internationals between 1968 and 1980. Until Nathan Lyon, he was Australia's most successful off spin bowler since World War II. He extracted a lot of bounce from his high arm action, coupled with his height.
