Richard Dawson of Dawson Grove, County Monaghan (c. 1693 – 29 December 1766) was an Irish Member of Parliament. Dawson Grove
Dartrey Forest (sometimes Dartrey Estate or Dawson Grove Estate) is a forest and estate near Rockcorry in north-west County Monaghan, Ireland. It was formerly part of the Barony of Dartrey and was the country estate of the Dawson family, who had the title Earl of Dartrey from 1866 to 1933. The once vast estate was centred on Dartrey House which was demolished in 1946. The forest's main gate is only a few miles from Cootehill. It is currently managed by Coillte as a commercial forest. The Forest is partially bordered by what is known locally as 'the Famine Wall', which stretches halfway along the road from Cootehill to Rockcorry (the R188). Just across the R188, the main Cootehill to Rockcorry road, near the main gate into the forest, is the Dawson Monument, a fine neo-Classical column designed by James Wyatt and erected around 1808. Hervey Morres, 1st Viscount Mountmorres
Hervey Morres, 1st Viscount Mountmorres (1707 – 6 April 1766), was an Irish landowner and politician. Morres was the son of Francis Morris, of Castle Morres, County Kilkenny, by Catherine Evans, daughter of Sir William Evans, 1st Baronet. His grandfather Hervey Morres, Member of parliament for Knocktoper, was a younger son of Sir Redmond Morres, 2nd Baronet, of Knockagh. Hervey's elder brother was Sir William Morres, 1st Baronet, Member of Parliament for Kilkenny and Newtownards, while Lodge de Montmorency, 1st Viscount Frankfort de Montmorency, was his nephew. Morres was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He was returned to the Irish House of Commons for St Canice (also known as Irishtown) in 1734, a seat he held until 1756. He was also Mayor of Kilkenny between 1752 and 1753. In 1756 he was elevated to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Mountmorres, of Castlemorres in the County of Kilkenny. Richard Power (Monaghan Politician)
Richard Power (c.1732-1794) was an Irish politician, barrister and judge of the late eighteenth century. He sat in the Irish House of Commons from 1767 to 1772, and was then appointed a Baron of the Court of Exchequer (Ireland). He was also Usher and Accountant-General of the Court of Chancery (Ireland). In his role as Accountant-General, he was accused of illegally enriching himself, and the resulting charge of corruption led to his death by suicide in 1794.Ball p.217 Career He was born in County Tipperary in about 1733, one of the three sons of John Power of Barretstown and Elizabeth Congreve, daughter of the Reverend John Congreve of Kilmacow, County Kilkenny and Rebecca Jones, and granddaughter of the Cromwellian army officer and politician Oliver Jones MP.Ball p.227 He entered the Middle Temple in 1752, was called to the Irish Bar in 1757 and took silk in 1768. William Fortescue, 1st Earl Of Clermont
William Henry Fortescue, 1st Earl of Clermont, KP (5 August 1722 – 30 September 1806), was an Irish peer and politician. Origins He was the eldest son of Thomas Fortescue (1683–1769), a Member of Parliament for Dundalk. His younger brother was James Fortescue, MP and Privy Counsellor. Career He served as High Sheriff of Louth in 1746. He represented Louth in the Irish House of Commons from 1745 to 1760 and subsequently Monaghan Borough from 1761 to 1770. In 1768 he sat briefly as Member of Parliament for Dundalk before opting to sit for Monaghan Borough, for which he had also been elected. He was appointed Governor and Custos Rotulorum of County Monaghan for life in 1775, standing down just before his death in 1806. He was created Earl of Clermont in 1777 and a Knight Founder of the Order of St Patrick on 30 March 1795.
