Richard Cocke
Richard Cocke (1597–1665) was a prominent colonial Virginia planter and politician. He established a political and social dynasty that firmly seated itself as among the most prominent in Virginia. Among his more prominent descendants are George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush, as well as professional baseball player Ryne Harper. Early life Richard Cocke was born in 1597 at Pickthorn, Stottesdon, Shropshire and baptized Dec. 13, 1597 at Sidbury. Richard was the son of Thomas Cocke, who was the son of William and Elizabeth Cocke. Richard had an older sister, Eleanor, born in 1591. His family was only one of several families with the name Cocke living about Shropshire at this time. Richard's early education is not known, but he was both literate and educated enough to act as an attorney in court. John Durand (painter)
John Durand (active 1765–1782)Several websites state that Durand was born in 1731 and died in 1805, but the source for this information is unknown. was a colonial American portraitist. With John Mare, Abraham Delanoy, and Lawrence Kilburn, he was one of a number of portraitists living and working in New York City during the 1760s. Nothing is known of Durand's origins, training or upbringing, as is often the case with colonial American painters. As he is referred to in two different known sources as "monsieur Duran" it has been assumed that he was of French descent. This assumption has been bolstered by the rococo colors used in his paintings, which some sources have taken to suggest that if not born in France he was at least trained there. It appears more likely, however, that he is the same "John Durand" that was apprenticed to Charles Catton in London on September 15, 1760, for a seven-year term. Chickahominy River
The Chickahominy is an U.S. Geological Survey. The river, which serves as the eastern border of Charles City County, rises about northwest of Richmond and flows southeast and south to the James River. First Families of Virginia (FFV) were those families in Colonial Virginia who were socially prominent and wealthy, but not necessarily the earliest settlers. They descended from English colonists who primarily settled at Jamestown, Williamsburg, the Northern Neck and along the James River and other navigable waters in Virginia during the 17th century. These elite families generally married within their social class for many generations and, as a result, most surnames of First Families date to the colonial period. Henrico County
Henrico County , officially the County of Henrico, is located in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 334,389 making it the fifth-most populous county in Virginia. Henrico County is included in the Greater Richmond Region.
