Richard C. Vinci
Richard C. Vinci (born 1947) is a retired United States Navy rear admiral. He served as the 35th Chief of the United States Navy Dental Corps. He retired in July 2011, after 42 years of naval service. Admiral Vinci is a member of the International College of Dentists, Academy of Operative Dentistry, American Dental Association, American Board of Operative Dentistry, and the American College of Dentists. Enlisted career and education Born in Chicago, Vinci enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968 as a dental technician. After completing his first tour of duty at Marine Corps Air Station New River, he would be honorably discharged as a petty officer second class. Vinci attended William Carey University where he was a member of the university's Chi Beta Phi chapter. He graduated in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. Chi Beta Phi ( ) is a professional fraternity in the field of science. History Chi Beta Phi was founded in April, 1916 at Randolph–Macon College. It recognizes a sole founder in John Howard Greene. The fraternity's purpose was to promote interest in sciences using reviews of current investigations, by promoting lectures by prominent scientists, distributing papers prepared by its members, and general discussion. The Fraternity existed as a local organization for four years, but began to expand during the 1921-22 school year, when three additional chapters were added. A national convention occurred on which determined an interest in national expansion. By 1925, individual chapter names were determined, a constitution and national program was developed, and the fraternity was on its way to opening 33 chapters over the next century. USS Bryce Canyon (AD-36)
USS ''Bryce Canyon'' (AD-36) was a , the only ship to be named for the Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. ''Bryce Canyon'' was launched 7 March 1946 by Charleston Navy Yard and sponsored by Mrs. William J. Carter, wife of Rear Admiral Carter. Little additional work was done on her until after the outbreak of the Korean War. Charleston Naval Shipyard then completed the tender and she was commissioned 15 September 1950. Service history ''Bryce Canyon'' transited the Panama Canal 5 December and reported to the Pacific Fleet. On 26 March 1951 she got underway from San Diego, California for the Far East. Arriving at Yokosuka, Japan, 12 April 1951, she spent the next seven months in Japanese waters repairing and servicing vessels based at Yokosuka and Sasebo. The 3rd Dental Battalion is a unit of the United States Navy that supports United States Marine Corps forces on Okinawa, Japan.
