Richard Broadbridge, 5th Baron Broadbridge
Air Vice-Marshal Richard John Martin Broadbridge, 5th Baron Broadbridge, (born 20 January 1959), is a British physician, senior Royal Air Force officer, and hereditary peer. Having joined the RAF in 1981, he rose to serve as Director Healthcare Delivery and Training, Defence Medical Services from 2014 to 2018 and acting Surgeon General in 2017. He transferred to the Royal Air Force Reserve on 5 February 2018, and succeeded his father as Baron Broadbridge in 2020. Honours On 18 September 2009, Broadbridge was made Honorary Surgeon to The Queen (QHS). He was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 2018 New Year Honours. Surgeon Vice-Admiral Alasdair James Walker, (22 June 1956 – 1 June 2019) was a British medical doctor and senior Royal Navy officer. He served as Surgeon-General of the British Armed Forces. Early life and education From 1965 to 1974, Walker was educated at the High School of Glasgow, then a grammar school in Glasgow, Scotland. From 1974 to 1979, he studied medicine at the University of Glasgow, and graduated with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degrees. Military career Walker deployed to the South Atlantic during the Falklands War in 1982 and led Commando Forward Surgical Group 2 during the Iraq War in 2003. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Military Order". He did not (as is commonly believed) revive the Order of the Bath, since it had never previously existed as an Order, in the sense of a body of knights who were governed by a set of statutes and whose numbers were replenished when vacancies occurred. Martin Hugh Broadbridge, 4th Baron Broadbridge (29 November 1929 – 19 April 2020), was a British hereditary peer. Biography Broadbridge was born 29 November 1929, son of Hugh Trevor Broadbridge (1903–1979), by his wife the former Anne Marjorie Elfick (1903–1979). He was educated at St George's College, Weybridge, an independent Catholic school in Surrey, England. He studied at the University of Birmingham, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in 1954. From 1954 to 1963, Broadbridge was a member of Her Majesty's Overseas Civil Service (HMOCS), and served as a district officer in Northern Nigeria. Returning to the United Kingdom, he was director and manager for a specialist road surface treatments company from 1963 to 1992. In retirement, he continued to work as a consultant.
