Richard William Maguire Braine (born April 1968) is a British software developer, photographer, and political figure who was Leader of the UK Independence Party, leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) between 10 August 2019 and 30 October 2019. Early life Born in London in April 1968, Braine was educated at Eton College, and graduated with a BSc in Physics and Philosophy from King's College London. Since 1994, Braine has worked as a software developer and a designer, and has run a photography business based in London. He founded Cyberphotographer, a web-based event photography service, in 1999. The UK Independence Party (UKIP; ) is a Eurosceptic, right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom. Grassroots Out (GO) was an organisation funded by Arron Banks that campaigned in favour of EU withdrawal in the 2016 referendum on EU membership in the United Kingdom. The organisation was formed in January 2016, as a result of infighting between Vote Leave and Leave.EU, and officially launched on 23 January 2016 in Kettering. Despite its name, it was started by politicians from a mixture of political parties including Peter Bone, Tom Pursglove, Liam Fox of the Conservatives, Kate Hoey of Labour, Nigel Farage of UKIP and Sammy Wilson of the DUP. Vote Leave was a campaigning organisation that supported a "Leave" vote in the 2016 United Kingdom European Union membership referendum. On 13 April 2016 it was designated by the Electoral Commission as the official campaign in favour of leaving the European Union in the Referendum. Vote Leave was founded in October 2015 by political strategists Matthew Elliott and Dominic Cummings as a cross-party campaign.
