Richard Bisschop
Richard Bisschop (21 June 1849 in Leeuwarden – 22 March 1926 in Bergen) was a Dutch painter, graphic artist and watercolorist. Biography His father was a hardware merchant. Bisschop originally trained to be an engineer, but was always interested in art because his uncle, Christoffel Bisschop and aunt, Kate Bisschop-Swift were painters. American Art Association
The American Art Association was an art gallery and auction house with sales galleries, established in 1883. It was first located at 6 East 23rd Street (South Madison Square) in Manhattan, New York City and moved to Madison Ave and 56th St. in 1922. It was the first auction house in the U.S. and had a strong presence in New York during the period of American history known as the Gilded Age, hosting some of the cities major art exhibitions at the time. The galleries and auctions were devoted to paintings by American artists and also had an Oriental Art Department. The Amsterdamse Joffers were a group of women artists who met weekly in Amsterdam at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. They supported each other in their professional careers. Most of them were students of the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten and belonged to the movement of the Amsterdam Impressionists. Each one became a successful artist. As a group they contributed to the social acceptance in the Netherlands of women becoming professional artists. Origin and development Beginning In 1894, Lizzy Ansingh and Coby Ritsema began their studies at the ''Rijksacademie'' in a separate class for female students.
