Rich Hill, Arizona
Weaver, or Weaverville, is a former gold mining town, now a deserted ghost town, in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States. All that remains are some rusting mining machinery, a partially restored cemetery, and the ruins of a stone house. History The town of Weaverville was established shortly after the discovery of placer gold deposits on nearby Rich Hill in May 1863. The town was named after mountain man Pauline Weaver, who worked as a guide for the group of prospectors who made the discovery. The gold was discovered by a member of the party while chasing a stray donkey. After the placer deposits were exhausted, mining turned to the lode deposits that were the source of the placer gold. Weaverville, soon shortened to Weaver, came under the control of Francisco Vega and his band of outlaws. Rich Hill (Bel Alton, Maryland)
Rich Hill, near Bel Alton, Maryland, was owned by Colonel Samuel Cox, a Confederate sympathizer during the American Civil War. Following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865, Cox hid assassin John Wilkes Booth and his companion, David Herold, in a swamp near Rich Hill. Booth and Herold left the property on April 21, crossing the Potomac River in a small boat. Following Booth's capture, Cox was tried and convicted of aiding Booth, receiving a light sentence. The house is significant in its own right, showing characteristic features of southern Maryland house construction. Rich Hill is a city in southern Bates County, Missouri, and is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area within the United States. The population was 1,232 at the 2020 census. History Rich Hill was platted in 1880. The city was named in 1871 by C.W. Ratekin and used the slogan "The Town That Coal Built". The town experienced a rapid population expansion during the late 1800s, until mining efforts began to decline and eventually ended in 1906. The mining effort was renewed by Peabody Energy in the 1950s. The Prairie View Stock Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. Richard Bradley Hill (born June 30, 1962) is an American baseball coach, who is the current head baseball coach of the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. He was the head coach of the San Diego Toreros from 1999 to 2021. Prior to San Diego, Hill was the head coach of the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen from 1988–1993 and the San Francisco Dons from 1994–1998. He also managed the Chatham A's, a collegiate summer baseball team in the Cape Cod Baseball League from 1990 to 1993. Hill's career head coaching record is 850–570–3, as of the end of the 2013 season. Prior to his coaching career, Hill played college baseball briefly at San Diego State before transferring to Cal Lutheran to finish his college career.
