Niccolò Riccardi
Niccolò Riccardi (born at Genoa, 1585; died at Rome, 30 May 1639) was an Italian Dominican theologian, writer and preacher, known today mostly for his role in the Galileo affair. Life Physically he was unprepossessing, but he was encouraged by his parents who sent him to study with Tomas de Lemos (1545-1629) at University of Valladolid. He entered the Dominican Order and was invested with its habit in the Convent of St. Paul, where he studied philosophy and theology. After completing his studies he was made a professor of Thomistic theology at Pincia. While discharging his academic duties, he acquired a reputation as a preacher: Philip III of Spain named him "padre Mostro" ("The Marvel-Priest" or "the Monster-Priest"), a sobriquet by which he was subsequently known in Spain and at Rome. Jake Riccardi (born 7 November 1999) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited by the Greater Western Sydney Giants with the 51st draft pick in the 2019 AFL draft. Early football Riccardi played for the Calder Cannons in the NAB League for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Arturo Riccardi (30 October 1878 – 20 December 1966) was an Italian admiral during the Second World War, serving as the Ministry of Marine Director General of Personnel from 1935 to 1940 and Under Secretary of State of the Navy from 1941 until 1943. Tommaso Riccardi (24 June 1844 – 25 March 1915) was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and Benedictine monk of the Cassinese Congregation. His monastic name was Placido. He was beatified in 1954. Life Tommaso Riccardi was born in Trevi on 24 June 1844 and spent his childhood in Umbria. He moved to Rome in 1865 in order to study for the priesthood. He studied philosophy at the Angelicum in Rome. A pilgrimage to Loreto motivated him to enter the abbey of St. Paul Outside the Walls on 12 November 1866. He made his final profession in 1868. As a deacon on 5 November 1870 he was arrested due to the fact that he dodged conscription; he was imprisoned in Florence and then sent as a soldier in Livorno after his release from prison on 24 December 1870.
