Ricardo Tormo
Ricardo Tormo Blaya (7 September 1952 – 27 December 1998) was a Spanish professional motorcycle road racer. He competed in Grand Prix motorcycle racing from to , most prominently as a two-time 50cc world champion riding Bultaco motorcycles. The Circuit de Valencia race track was renamed Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo in his honor. Biography Tormo was born in the village of Alacor in the municipality of Canals in the Spanish province of Valencia. When he was 8, his family moved into the center of Canals. Tormo won the FIM 50cc world championship as a member of the Bultaco factory racing team. He repeated as 50cc world champion in on a privately backed Bultaco. He was also a three-time 50cc Spanish national champion and a four-time 125cc national champion. His career was closely linked to that of Ángel Nieto, who was both a teammate and rival of Tormo. Canals is a municipality (pop., INE 2007: 13,771) in the ''comarca'' of Costera in the Valencian Community, Spain. It shares borders with the municipalities of l'Alcúdia de Crespins, Cerdà, la Granja de la Costera, Xàtiva, Llanera de Ranes, Montesa, Torrella and Vallés (in the same ''comarca'') and with Aielo de Malferit and l'Olleria (''comarca'' of Vall d'Albaida). Ángel Nieto Roldán (25 January 1947 – 3 August 2017) was a Spanish professional Grand Prix motorcycle racer. He was one of the most accomplished motorcycle racers in the history of the sport, winning 13 World Championships and 90 Grand Prix victories in a racing career that spanned twenty-three years from 1964 to 1986, mainly engaged in 50cc, 80cc and 125cc respectively.''50 Years Of Moto Grand Prix'' (1st edition). Circuit De Calafat
The Circuit Calafat was built in 1974 outside the town of the same name in the L'Ametlla de Mar in Catalonia. Private finance paid by the company Calafat, S.A., which cost a total of 30 million pesetas (USD $210,716.05). Fans made their own contribution, purchasing shares in the facility worth a total of 25,000 pesetas. The track closed temporarily during 1982 and 1985 because of legal problems but soon recovered. In 1990 an extension to the circuit was constructed, bringing it up to its current length. On 2008 an investment plan to update the installations and security of the track started, thus in 2012 the circuit received the homologation from the Catalan Motorcycle federation.
