Ricardo Menéndez Salmón
Ricardo Menéndez Salmón is a Spanish novelist and writer. He was born in Gijón in Asturias province. He has written more than half a dozen novels. Career He is best known for his trilogy of novels, consisting of ''La ofensa'' (2007), ''Derrumbe'' (2008) and ''El corrector'' (2009). ''La ofensa'' won the Qwerty Barcelona Televisión prize, the Librería Sintagma prize for Best Book of the Year, and Best Spanish Narrative of 2007 as selected by the literary journal Quimera. Other notable works include ''La noche feroz'' and ''La luz es más antigua que el amor''. He has also published a travel book, a play, poems and short stories. He contributes regularly to Spanish newspapers and literary journals. He has won many literary prizes, including the 2016 Premio Biblioteca Breve for ''El Sistema'', and has been translated into many languages, although not so far into English. Gijón () or () is a city and municipality in north-western Spain. It is the largest city and municipality by population in the autonomous community of Asturias. The Quimera International Festival of Art and Culture ( es, Festival Internacional Quimera or ) is an international art and cultural event that takes place in several locations of Metepec, Toluca, Mexico named after the chimera, a mythological creature with parts from multiple animals. Premio Biblioteca Breve
The Premio Biblioteca Breve is a literary award given annually by the publisher Seix Barral (now part of Grupo Planeta) to an unpublished novel in the Spanish language. Its prize is €30,000 and publication of the winning work. It is delivered in February, to a work from the preceding year. History On 14 June 1958, a jury comprising literary critics Josep Maria Castellet and José María Valverde, and editors (editorial director), Juan Petit (literary director) and Carlos Barral (director of the collection), gave the inaugural award in Sitges, Barcelona. As stated by members of the jury, it was intended to encourage young writers and the renewal of Spanish literature.
