Ricardo Fernandes (badminton)
Ricardo Fernandes (born 12 November 1972 in Funchal) is a retired male badminton player from Portugal. He also was the main inspiration for the naming of XquaX FC, a football/futsal team created in Madeira Island in March 2018. Career In 1990, Fernandes won the Gibraltar International after defeating teammate Antonio Lopes in the final. He also finished as runner-up in men's doubles at the Gibraltar International. Fernandes competed in badminton at the 1992 Summer Olympics in men's singles. He lost in the first round to Robert Liljequist, of Finland, 15-3, 15-11. He also competed in men's doubles with Fernando Silva but lost to Benny Lee and Thomas Reidy of the United States in the first round. In 1994, Fernandes won the men's doubles title along with Fernando Silva at the Slovenian International. Ricardo Manuel da Silva Fernandes (born 14 January 1978) is a Portuguese former professional footballer who played as a central defender. Club career Fernandes was born in Azurém, Guimarães. After making his Primeira Liga debut with lowly S.C. Salgueiros, which folded soon after, he moved to Moreirense FC, playing there for a further two top flight seasons. For 2005–06 he joined Madeira's C.D. Nacional, being an undisputed starter from the beginning and helping it achieve a fifth place (with the subsequent qualification to the UEFA Cup) in his first year. Fernandes signed for Romania's FC Rapid București in July 2008, alongside compatriot José Peseiro whom arrived as manager. Ricardo Ribeiro Fernandes (born 21 April 1978) is a Portuguese former footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He amassed Primeira Liga totals of 72 matches and eight goals during four seasons, representing in the competition Gil Vicente, Sporting, Porto and Académica. He also competed professionally in Cyprus, Ukraine, Israel and Greece, notably spending several years in the Cypriot First Division with five clubs and winning the national championship with APOEL in 2007. Ricardo Vaz Afonso Fernandes (born 28 August 2002) is a professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Estoril. Born in Portugal, he plays for the São Tomé and Príncipe national team. Professional career Fernandes is a youth product of Arrentela and Pescadores, before moving to Casa Pia's youth academy in 2018.
