Kandahar (ski Course)
Kandahar is a classic World Cup downhill ski course in southern Germany. Located in Bavaria at the Garmisch Classic ski area on the Zugspitze above Garmisch-Partenkirchen, it opened in 1936. In 2009, the new "Kandahar 2" men's course opened, parallel to the original, which became "Kandahar 1". With a maximum incline of 42.6° degrees (92%), it has the second steepest gradient on the World Cup circuit. Since 1954, the Arlberg-Kandahar races have been held here, rotating with other notable downhill courses in Austria, Switzerland, France, and Italy. Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. The women's super-G competition in the 2016 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup involved sight events, including the season final in St. Moritz, Switzerland. The season competition was a two-person battle between 2014 discipline champion Lara Gut from Switzerland and defending discipline champion (and five-time winner) Lindsey Vonn from the USA. Vonn won all of the first three races, but she suffered a season-ending injury in the sixth. The International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine World Cup tour is the premier circuit for alpine skiing competition. Raphael Haaser (born 17 September 1997) is an Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer. He specializes in the technical events of giant slalom and Super-G. Career Haaser achieved his first World Cup podium in December 2021, finishing second in a super-G at Bormio. Alpine Skiing At The 2018 Winter Olympics
Alpine skiing at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held from 12 to 24 February at Yongpyong Alpine Centre (slalom and giant slalom) at the Alpensia Sports Park in PyeongChang and at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre (speed events) in Jeongseon, South Korea. In June 2015, the International Olympic Committee approved the addition of a mixed team event, bringing the total of medal events in alpine skiing to eleven. It was the last event on the schedule. Qualification A maximum of 320 quota spots were available to athletes to compete at the games. A maximum of twenty-two athletes could be entered by a National Olympic Committee, with a maximum of fourteen men or fourteen women. A total of sixteen countries also qualified for the inaugural team event. There were two qualification standards for the games: an A standard and a B standard.
