Rhythm Roundup
''Rhythm Roundup'' is an Australian television series for which little information is available. It was a music series featuring Roy Hampson, but the exact format is not known. It ran from 1957 to 1960 on Sydney stations ATN-7 and ABN-2. In 1958 the series featured the ''Poster Girl'' contest, with 19-year-old Annette Andre winning. She appeared on the series for four weeks. It should not be confused with ''Record Roundup'', which featuring the same host and aired on the same station. ABN (TV Station)
ABN is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's television station in Sydney. The station began broadcasting on 5 November 1956. Its original studios were located in Gore Hill and were in use up until March 2004, when they were co-located with ABC Radio, Radio Australia, ABC-TV Set Construction and ABC Australia at the Corporation's headquarters in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. Its main transmitter, however, remains at Gore Hill. Annette Andre (born 24 June 1939) is an Australian actress best known for her work on British television throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Early life and early career The daughter of an upholsterer, Annette Andre was born in Drummoyne, Australia, as Annette Christine Andreallo. She was brought up in Sydney and educated at Brigidine College, Sydney. She began work as a ballet dancer at the age of 4 at an academy linked to the Australian Ballet. At 15, she decided to stop ballet and pursue acting because she realised that she was not yet 16, the legal age to work in acting. Kinescope , shortened to kine , also known as telerecording in Britain, is a recording of a television program on motion picture film, directly through a lens focused on the screen of a video monitor. The process was pioneered during the 1940s for the preservation, re-broadcasting and sale of television programmes before the introduction of quadruplex videotape, which from 1956 eventually superseded the use of kinescopes for all of these purposes. Kinescopes were the only practical way to preserve live television broadcasts prior to videotape. Common reasons for loss A significant proportion of early television programming was never recorded in the first place. Early broadcasting in all genres was live and sometimes performed repeatedly.
