Rhys Thompson (golfer)
Rhys Thompson (born 19 July 1996) is an English international judoka. He has represented England at the Commonwealth Games and won a bronze medal. Biography Thompson is a double British champion, winning the half-heavyweight title at the British Judo Championships in 2018 and 2021. He has twice won medals at the European Open. In 2022, he was selected for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham where he competed in the Judo at the 2022 Commonwealth Games – Men's 100 kg, men's 100 kg, winning the bronze medal. At the 2022 British National Championships he successfully defended his -100kg title. Rhys Greenaway "Tommy" Thomson (August 9, 1918 – October 12, 1993) was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played 25 games in the National Hockey League for the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs between 1940 and 1942. 2022 Commonwealth Games
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations that took place in Birmingham, England between 28 July and 8 August 2022. Birmingham was announced as host on 21 December 2017. The Games marked England's third time hosting the Commonwealth Games after London 1934 and Manchester 2002, and the 7th Games held in the United Kingdom, with previous events in Wales and Scotland: Cardiff 1958, Edinburgh 1970 and 1986 and Glasgow 2014. The British Judo Championships are held annually and feature various age and weight categories to determine the British champion. The Championships are currently held at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield. Until 2013, the Championships were held under the title of either the British Closed Championships or the British Senior Trials.
