Rhoose Point
Rhoose Point ( cy, Trwyn y Rhws) is a headland and a settlement near the village of Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. Rhoose Point is the most southerly settlement of Wales. It may also be the southernmost point of mainland Wales, although this has also been claimed for nearby Breaksea Point. The Vale of Glamorgan Council had installed a permanent notice marking Rhoose Point as the most southerly part of Wales's mainland and there is a small stone circle marking the point. Rhoose cement works, an asbestos factory and a quarry used to be located to the north or Rhoose Point. This land has been reclaimed and is the site of the Rhoose Point Housing scheme, where over 1,000 houses have greatly extended the village of Rhoose. Cardiff Airport ( cy, Maes Awyr Caerdydd) is the only airport offering commercial passenger services in Wales. It has been under the ownership of the Welsh Government since March 2013, operating at an arm's length as a commercial business. Passenger numbers were 1.66 million in 2019 and were increasing year-on-year. East Aberthaw
Aberthaw ( cy, Aberddawan) is an area containing the villages of East Aberthaw and West Aberthaw, on the coast of South Wales about west of Barry. It is home to Aberthaw Cement Works, Aberthaw Lime Works, and Aberthaw Power Station, a coal power station that is linked to the South Wales Valleys via the Vale of Glamorgan Railway. The area is historically within the parish of Penmark in the Vale of Glamorgan. The two villages of West and East Aberthaw are separated by the River Thaw. The village of East Aberthaw, near Rhoose, has a 13th-century pub. The village Baptist Chapel and Mission Room, no longer exist as such and have been converted for other uses. Royal Air Force Rhoose or more simply RAF Rhoose is a former Royal Air Force satellite station located near Rhoose, a few miles west of Cardiff, Wales. Font-y-Gary, also Fontygary, Fontegary or Fontygari ( cy, Ffont-y-gari), is a village adjacent to Rhoose, 3 miles south-west of Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, on the coast of south Wales. To the north is Fonmon and Fonmon Castle. The origin of the name is uncertain but in 1587 it was documented as "Fundygary". Font-y-Gary is located near Cardiff International Airport. There is little in the village itself apart from the Font-y-Gary Holiday and Leisure Park and caravan site and stoney beach. On Sundays there is a car boot sale on the holiday park site, as well as the club and shop. Barry ( cy, Y Barri; ) is a town in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, on the north coast of the Bristol Channel approximately south-southwest of Cardiff. Andrew Robert Tudor Davies CBE (born 1968) is a British politician serving as Leader of the Welsh Conservative Group in the Senedd since 2021, previously holding the position from 2011 to 2018.
