Rheingau Literatur Preis
Rheingau Literatur Preis is a literary prize of Hesse. It is awarded annually since 1994 by the which follows the Rheingau Musik Festival. An author is awarded whose prose gained the attention of the literary critics ("") The prize of 11,111 Euro is given by the cultural ministry Hessisches Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Verkehr und Landesentwicklung and by the Rheingau Musik Festival. The author also receives 111 bottles of Rheingau Riesling, donated by the association Verband Deutscher Prädikats- und Qualitätsweingüter Rheingau. A literary award or literary prize is an award presented in recognition of a particularly lauded literary piece or body of work. It is normally presented to an author. Ralf Rothmann
Ralf Rothmann (born May 10, 1953 in Schleswig, Schleswig-Holstein) is a German novelist, poet, and dramatist. His novels have been translated into several languages with Knife Edge (''Messers Schneide'') and Young Light (''Junges Licht'') being translated into English. Main subject of his work are both the bourgeois and proletarian reality of life in the Ruhr Metropolitan area (e.g., ''Stier'', ''Wäldernacht'', ''Milch und Kohle'') as well as Berlin (''Flieh mein Freund'', ''Hitze'', ''Feuer brennt nicht'') with an autobiographically colored focus on alienation, the attempt to escape these situations, and common solitude. His novel "Feuer brennt nicht" (2009) is a very moving portrait of an artist-writer torn between two women paying a high price for his infidelity. Annette Pehnt
Annette Pehnt (born 1967 in Cologne) is a German writer and literary critic. She lives in Freiburg in Baden-Württemberg. After graduating from school in 1986 Pehnt performed voluntary social work in Belfast. After a year living in Scotland, she studied English, Celtic studies and German language and literature at the University of Cologne, University of Galway, University of California, Berkeley and University of Freiburg. After her master's degree and the first national examination in 1994, graduation followed in 1997 at the University of Freiburg with a work on Irish literature. Since 1992 Pehnt, married and mother of three children, has lived as a literature critic and self-employed author in Freiburg and teaches at the University of Hildesheim, where she leads the Institut für Literarisches Schreiben & Literaturwissenschaft. Dörte Hansen
Dörte Hansen (also known as Dörte Hansen-Jaax, born 1964 in Husum, West Germany) is a German linguist, journalist and writer. Life Hansen grew up in Högel in Nordfriesland; her family spoke Low German at home. She learned her "first foreign language," Standard German, in elementary school. After graduating high school (''Abitur'') in 1984, she studied sociolinguistics, English studies, Romance studies and Frisian studies at the Christian Albrechts University Kiel. In 1994, Hansen received her doctorate at the University of Hamburg with a sociolinguistic thesis on a special form of bilingualism. Hansen is married to documentary filmmaker and has a daughter. Ingo Schulze
Ingo Schulze (born 15 December 1962) is a German writer born in Dresden in former East Germany. He studied classical philology at the University of Jena for five years, and, until German reunification, was an assistant director (dramatic arts advisor) at the State Theatre in Altenburg 45 km south of Leipzig for two years. After sleeping through the events of the night of 9 November 1989, Schulze started a newspaper with friends. He was encouraged to write. Schulze spent six months in St Petersburg which became the basis for his debut collection of short stories ''33 Moments of Happiness'' (1995). Schulze has won a number of awards for his novels and stories, which have been translated into twenty languages, among them into English by John E. Woods. In 2007, he was awarded the Thüringer Literaturpreis. In 2013 he was awarded the Bertolt-Brecht-Literaturpreis. Saša Stanišić
Saša Stanišić ( sr-cyr, Саша Станишић; born 7 March 1978) is a Bosnian-German writer. He was born in Višegrad, Bosnia and Herzegovina as the son of a Bosniak mother and a Serbian father. In the spring of 1992, he fled alongside his family to Germany as a refugee of the Bosnian War. Stanišić spent the remainder of his youth in Heidelberg, where his teachers encouraged his passion for writing. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the University of Heidelberg, graduating with degrees in Slavic studies and German as a second language. In 2006, Stanišić released his debut novel, published in English as ''How the Soldier Repairs the Gramophone''. The book won multiple awards both in Germany and abroad and has been translated into 31 languages as of 2019. Klaus Modick
Klaus Modick (born 3 May 1951) is a German author and literary translator. Education and early career Klaus Modick was born in Oldenburg and completed his secondary education at the Altes Gymnasium there in 1971. He then attended Hamburg University, where he read German, History and Educational Theory, completing his teaching qualification in 1977. Modick then took a doctorate in 1980, with a thesis on the German-Jewish novelist and playwright Lion Feuchtwanger. Modick spent five years as an advertising copywriter and worked as a part-time lecturer in German literature in the higher education sector before becoming a freelance writer and translator in 1984. In 1984 he married an American citizen he met during one of his frequent visits to Crete and they have two daughters. Sten Nadolny
Sten Nadolny (; born 29 July 1942, in Zehdenick, Province of Brandenburg) is a German novelist. His parents, Burkhard and Isabella Nadolny, were also writers. Biography Nadolny grew up in the town of Traunstein, in Upper Bavaria. After receiving his ''Abitur'', he studied history and political science in Munich, Göttingen, Tübingen and Berlin. Nadolny received his PhD in 1976 at the Free University of Berlin. His dissertation was on German disarmament diplomacy at the 1932/33 Geneva Conference, shortly before Hitler came to power. Nadolny's grandfather, Rudolf Nadolny, had led the German delegation. Nadolny worked for about a year as a history teacher before entering the film industry as a production manager, an experience he wrote about in his first novel, the semi-autobiographical ''Netzkarte''. Josef Haslinger
Josef Haslinger (born July 5, 1955) is an Austrian writer. Haslinger was born in Zwettl, Lower Austria. He studied philosophy, drama and Germanic studies at the University of Vienna. He received his PhD in 1980. Since then he has been working as a freelance writer. 1976 to 1992 he was co-editor of the literary magazine "Wespennest". In 1983/84 Haslinger had a teaching position at the University of Kassel, was Secretary General of the Graz Authors' Assembly from 1986 to 1989, and from 1986 to 1994 co-organizer of the "Vienna Lectures on Literature". In 1995 he was a lecturer at the University of Kassel and wrote parts of his political thriller novel, ''Opernball'' (Opera Ball) there. Christoph Peters
Christoph Peters (born 1966) is a German author of novels and short stories. His debut novel, ''Stadt Land Fluss'' was published in 1999, and won the Aspekte-Literaturpreis for the best German literary debut. Ursula Krechel (born 4 December 1947) is a German writer. Krechel was born in Trier. From 1966 to 1972 she studied German studies, theatre, and art history at the University of Cologne. From 1969 to 1972, she worked as a drama advisor in Dortmund.
