Rheinböllen (Verbandsgemeinde)
Rheinböllen is a former ''Verbandsgemeinde'' ("collective municipality") in the Rhein-Hunsrück district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Its seat was in Rheinböllen. On 1 January 2020 it was merged into the new ''Verbandsgemeinde'' Simmern-Rheinböllen. A (; plural ) is a low-level administrative division, administrative unit in the Germany, German States of Germany, federal states of Brandenburg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony-Anhalt. Erbach, Rhineland-Palatinate
Erbach () is an – a municipality belonging to a , a kind of collective municipality – in the Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis (district) in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It belongs to the ''Verbandsgemeinde'' Simmern-Rheinböllen, whose seat is in Simmern. Geography Location The municipality lies in the eastern Hunsrück right on the Autobahn A 61. Southeast of the village is the edge of the ''Binger Wald'' (Bingen Forest). History Erbach belonged to the Electorate of the Palatinate ''Altes Gericht'' (“Old Court”). Beginning in 1794, Erbach lay under French rule. In 1814 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. Since 1947, it has been part of the then newly founded state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Schnorbach
Schnorbach is an – a municipality belonging to a , a kind of collective municipality – in the Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis (district) in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It belongs to the administrative unit Simmern-Rheinböllen, whose seat is in Simmern. Geography Location The municipality lies in a hollow north of the Soonwald – a heavily wooded section of the west-central Hunsrück – and ''Bundesstraße'' 50, halfway between Simmern to the west and Rheinböllen to the east, with each roughly away. The municipal area measures 342 ha, of which roughly 81 ha is wooded and 230 ha is given over to agriculture. History About 1200, Schnorbach had its first documentary mention. A bronze axe from the Tumulus culture (about 1000 BC), however, bears witness to earlier human habitation. Riesweiler
Riesweiler is an – a municipality belonging to a , a kind of collective municipality – in the Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis (district) in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It belongs to the ''Verbandsgemeinde'' Simmern-Rheinböllen, whose seat is in Simmern. Geography Location The municipality lies at the north foot of the Soonwald, a heavily wooded section of the west-central Hunsrück, roughly 2 km southeast of Simmern and 9 km southwest of Rheinböllen. Within Riesweiler’s limits is the district’s highest peak at 653 m above sea level, the Simmerkopf. History Riesweiler might have had a Roman past, for it lies on an old Roman road. In 1135, Riesweiler had its first documentary mention. According to historical researchers, though, Riesweiler must already have existed by 995, when the oldest royal estate, “Denzen” was donated by King Otto III to his stalwart, Bezelin.
