RheinStars Köln is a professional basketball club based in Cologne, Germany. The team currently plays in the Regionalliga, the fourth tier basketball league in Germany. The club has won one Basketball Bundesliga championship and three German Cup titles in its history. History The team was founded 1999, as Cologne 99ers. In the Euroleague 2006-07 season, their home arena was an arena in Düsseldorf, Germany, named Philips Halle. RheinEnergie power company supported the team until the summer of 2007, thus the team changed to its original name, Köln 99ers. On January 21, 2008, the club announced that they were insolvent. In 2013, the club was re-launched and started in the 2.Regionliga (5th division) with the new name of RheinStars Köln. ProB
The ProB is the third-tier level league of professional club basketball in Germany. The league comprises 24 teams, separated into a Northern and a Southern Division. Officially, the ProB is part of the ''2. Basketball Bundesliga'', which consists of the two hierarchical leagues ''ProA'' and ''ProB''. Before the 2007–08 season, the ''2. Basketball Bundesliga'' was a basketball league with the same name, which consisted of two geographical divisions. At the end of the league stage, the winning team of the playoffs in each division, qualify for the ProA, and the teams positioned in 9th place and lower, fight in the play-downs, for the whereabouts in the league. John Garfield "Toby" Bailey (born November 19, 1975) is an American former professional basketball player. He is currently a sports agent. College career Bailey played four years of college basketball at UCLA, being part of the Bruins squad that won the 1995 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. Tibor Pleiß (, alternative spelling Pleiss; born 2 November 1989) is a German professional basketball player for Anadolu Efes of the Turkish Super League and the EuroLeague. Dayon Demond Mallet (born February 22, 1978) is a retired American professional basketball player. He played college basketball at McNeese State University. Mallet spent 17 seasons as a professional player, in multiple European leagues afterwards, and won multiple championships and was named the Most Valuable Player of several competitions. Mallet won a German League championship, and the German Cup title. He also won the ULEB Cup championship (which is now called the EuroCup), and he won the prestigious Spanish King's Cup title, with the team Joventut Badalona. Philipp Schwethelm () is a retired German professional basketball player. He competed with the German national basketball team at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Professional career Schwethelm began his professional career in 2005 with German side Köln 99ers (then called RheinEnergie Köln). He played sparingly for two seasons before seeing significant action starting with the 2007–08 season. While with the 99ers, he participated in EuroCup 2005–06, 2006–07 Euroleague, and ULEB Cup 2007–08. In 2009, the 99ers declared bankruptcy. Marcin Janusz Gortat (; born February 17, 1984) is a Polish former professional basketball player. The , center is the son of boxer Janusz Gortat.
